Harbor View at Jones Landing Wedding on Peaks Island, Maine | Getting Married in Maine

Last evening’s wedding at The Harbor View at Jones Landing on Peaks Island, Maine, was like a dance party, fused with rain, friends and celebration. The kids rocked out so hard that we almost missed the boat back to the mainland in Portland, Maine. The rain came near the end of the evening, but the wedding was not dampened by the weather. Our short beach photo shoot went on as planned, luckily. I returned home to our electricity being out, so I could not get the photos onto my computer until Sunday morning. Here is one shot from the beach. Myself and the couple had made the journey via golf cart and found it almost empty when we waked down the ramp. I love this photo of both the bride and groom together, individually in thought. I feel it represents their union as a couple, and at the same time honors them as individuals. The wind grabbing her vale, naturally becoming the focus of the photo. Thanks John and Joslin for including me on this most special of days. If you want to know more about this Maine wedding venue please see the post were I interview Robin Clark from the Harbor View at Jones Landing.  She answered all the frequently asked questions about the popular Maine wedding venue

I was honored to be part of another great wedding in New Hampshire as a photographer. I had to share a few of my favorite photos from the day at The Margate Resort in Laconia, NH,. With The Lakeside Pavilion and tented reception area, this wedding venue makes for a special destination for weddings in New Hampshire. The lake as the back drop is great for photos. The sunset was epic and the bride and groom were happy to take a walk to the waters edge for a short photo session. One thing I want to do at weddings is not only create amazing images for my couples, I want to make sure that their needs come first and foremost. If they want to take the time to create some sunsets portraits, I do my very best to do so quickly and efficiently, so that they are only away from their family and friends for as short of time as possible. We headed to the beach and dock area with the bridal party with the flower girls in tow. I will have more to post later. Be sure to check back for the slide show from this great wedding.

Wedding Jackson New Hampshire

Last week I posted about a private wedding that took place in Jackson, NH. The couple, myself and the Justice of the Peace were the only attendees at this elopement. The couple had made a trip to The Wentworth a few times in the weeks prior. The bride had mapped out some great locations for photo shoots with just her and the groom. The limo was gassed up and I followed them around in my vehicle. We stopped maybe six times at various spots,. all of which were great. A barn, a old stone and a wooden fence were some of the backdrops. The view from The Eagle Mountain House was also a special stop for photos.

At one point, we drove past a field of yellow flowers with a grand view. I was hoping the limo would stop for photos at this location, but it did not. We did stop just past a the field to shoot some photos at a cool stone fence. Once were done at the fence, I asked if they wanted to head back to the field. They both said, “Yes, lets do it!” I had them walk to meet in the field. Then walk together across the field. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. The happy couple drove off in the limo and I drove home to my family. The perfect end to a perfect day. Enjoy some of the photo we made that day. If you are looking to create some wedding photos that are more then just family photo after the ceremony, contact me today. I would love to spend a few hours with you and create some images you are proud to hang on the wall.

Boston Engagement Photo Shoot at The Boston Public Gardens

Last week I had an amazing photo shoot in Boston, MA. The couple was great. The weather was great. The shoot was great. We spent most of the time in The Boston Public Garden. The park was busy, but we found small areas of solitude to make some great images. Here area few. I shot more casual and in the moment. It was great and so much more fun then a posed shoot. We took some posed shots also but the couple was great and happy to just be together in the park. If you view my wedding pricing. You will see that most of my packages include a free engagement session. These sessions can take from 1-2 hours. These are a great way for use to get to know each other a little better and go over any question you will have about your wedding day and your photography coverage. Many engaged couples use these photos for their save the date wedding invitations. It is a great reminder to the time just before your life together truly is forever.

Best New Hampshire Wedding Photos- May 2016

Summer is upon us and a new wedding season has begun!. I wanted to share my best wedding photos from May of 2016. I shot three weddings last month, and I was inspired to share them with all of you! I feel. I love getting creative with the weddings that I shoot. However, not every couple is looking for artsy photos and they would rather pose for more traditional shots and would rather mingle with guests while I take some candid shots. Every wedding is different and every couple’s needs are different. I have no attachment to what the couple wants for photos, I am only there for serve each couple and perfectly cater my services to what they desire.

I do enjoy when couples hire me to create some unique and powerful art. So, if you’ are looking for something artsy and unique, or something more traditional, I will respect whatever style and type of photos you are looking for. Feel free to contract me with any questions about your vision.

I do take a limited amount of weddings in Maine, New Hampshire and the Boston area each year, so don’t hesitate to call and see if I am available for your date. Simply click on the tab at the top of this page. I look forward to hearing from you. If you hire me as your photographer, I want to be accessible to you to call me or email anytime! I usually talk to the couples who hire me several times before the wedding. It is important for me to be here for you and your partner to answer any questions and work together to co-create the wedding of your dreams.

Breakwater Inn & Spa Wedding | Maine Wedding Photography Blog

Heather & Aaron
Date: May 14, 2016
Wedding Venue: Breakwater Inn & Spa
Town: Kennebunkport, Maine
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer: Joe Martin
DJ: Music On Wheels featuring Mike Pomp

Summers on the coast of Maine might just be the best location to spend a summer in all the world! I may be a little bias about this, where the coast line is only fifty miles from my home. It is a place we find ourselves and release what doesn’t serve us anymore. Trips to the coast are deeply rooted in our family history and I know the magic that resides there. Family fun in the sun at one of the many beach locations, or a short trip to a small village town, like The Old Port in Portland or to Wells, Maine is a tradition for many New Englanders. We always make time for a little “beach therapy.”

As the summer wedding season gears up and I am shooting a wedding or two every weekend, it is is really great when a wedding is in a coastal location. This wedding brought me to Kennebunkport, Maine and to The Breakwater Inn & Spa. Heather & Aaron had put a request out on one of the many wedding booking sites online, looking for a photographer. I sent them a quote and we exchanged an email or two. They liked my work and my price and they wanted to meet me before booking me. Once the meeting was over, they booked and here we find our selves at their wedding on the Kennebunk River!

With the day looking great, a light breeze and a gust here and there, the magical day started off perfectly! Part of the bride, Heather’s, plan was that I be there before the wedding for a short photo session for her and her bridemaids on the Breakwater, which was just up the road from the Inn. It was windy, but we enjoyed this pre-wedding photo session. Her parents joined us and we made them part of the photo shoot as well.

Back at the Inn, Aaron and his groomsmen were about ready to begin the ceremony. One of the things I enjoy about weddings is that I get to hear some of the back story of the couples I am shooting. I try to get to know the couple as much as time allows before the wedding date. Most times we become friends on Facebook or follow one another on Instagram. Hearing the story of the couple is often times humorous and it is almost always a love at first sight.story. The more that I learn about them, the better I can interact with them at their wedding to capture the perfect moments through photography.

The wedding was on the side lawn of the Inn which is just a few feet from the seaside river. They held the reception in a beautiful outdoor tent. They treated their guests with a “make your own sundae” ice cream bar. Like most weddings, they kissed and danced and danced some more. It was an intimate, joyful gathering and I am honored to have been part of it!

Enjoy this gallery of wedding photos. Feel free to share this post with guests of the wedding! I am sure they would love to experience this beautiful wedding again, through photos.

Today, I wanted to share about a young couple, a beautiful day and an amazing location. Here we go again! The wedding season in New Hampshire has official begun! This April day wedding brought me to the southern New Hampshire wedding venue at Dell Lea Weddings & Events in Chichester. The weather was perfect. The sun was warm and the air was cool. With a few clouds above this picturesque venue, the day was off to a great start.

As family and friends started to gather in the hall, the bride was in the suite upstairs, adding the final touches to her elegant look. The groom and his grooms man were helping to add the final touches to the photo booth and helping their children get ready for the wedding ceremony. The groomsmen lined up and the music for the ceremony began. The bridesmaids began to walk across the lawn. The officiant shared a few words about the couples back story. How they met and their work background was a big part of their story as a couple. After the rings were exchanged and they ended the ceremony with a kiss, the bride and groom turned towards their friends and family with big smiles and began the walk together. The rest of the day was a smooth and came off wonderfully.

I went right into shooting some family portraits, starting with the brides list of requested photos. We moved around the property. The stone walls the front lawn in the apple trees. The venue had a tool shed on the property and. I had the couple pose for a moody shot in front of it. I shot solo portraits of each member of the bridal party and their significant others. I took a few final group shots with the entire family, including both the bride and grooms family.

After the formal photos, everyone relaxed and the party was underway. There was dancing, eating and family connection. The dance floor was rocking most all night with the DJ dropping the latests hits mixed in with some old favorites. As a photographer on a wedding day that has no wedding planner I take the role as a partner with the couple the DJ and the venue, if they desire that from me.. This day was smooth and fun. I wish only the best for these two families that became one. I wanted to share a few of the wedding photos from this beautiful, New Hampshire wedding day. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Wedding At Belknap Mill – Laconia, NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

Venue| Belknap Mill
Town| Laconia, NH
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer | Joe Martin

With all the history in New Hampshire, it is hard to find a wedding venue that doesn’t have a back-story or state legacy. There is some history in Laconia, N.H., Belknap Mill is a historic hosiery factor.y What better place to have your wedding? The venue is in a large brick building. After you get married outside at the gazebo next to the Winnipesaukee River, you can walk down the stone walkway to your guests and loving partner.

If you are get married in the spring, you will have the beautiful flowers on the budding tress. If your wedding is in the fall, you will have the color of the foliage all around you. Even though this venue appears to be in a busy part of tow, it is surprisingly quiet and intimate. There is many spaces to take photos with family and your wedding party on the grounds of the, Belknap Mill. The river the gazebo and a small private park are just a few spots that are adjacent to the brick building mill was housed in.

The Mill hosts the reception on the 3rd floor. The interior of the hall has many windows and its original industrial-style brick walls. The bride wanted to do a special photo for her parents at one point, so we went outside with a custom- made sign and created the photos she wanted. Here is just a few of the photos from this unique October wedding.

One of my favorite photos was the one here with this young child sitting on the dance floor with their stuffed animal. It was just a fleeting moment before her parents came out to dance with her, that I noticed and quickly snapped a photo. I was happy to be able to capture this moment. With seventeen weddings under my belt this past year, I’ve learned what to look for in the moments in between the major wedding moments. Sometimes, the little things become just as powerful and meaningful moments and bring such uniqueness to each wedding photography experience.
I am almost totally booked for Saturdays this year (2016). I have started to take bookings for 2017. Do not wait to contact me today to reserve your date. Just $100 deposit will secure your special day. Also, if you book your wedding before May 31st, 2016, I will add one hour of photography at no extra charge. Give me a call anytime. 603-367-4657.

I started off this 2016 wedding season early. This was a last minute booking with a call on Friday and the wedding on that following Monday. It was a Leap Day wedding here in Manchester, New Hampshire. This young couple was married at city hall. They had a small group of friends and family in attendance. What a great way to get personal with all the guests. We had a great time together. Everyone got to take part in seeing the first look. Once I heard they were going to being seeing each other for the first time that day at the signing of the paperwork. I knew we had to set up a spot to have them have a first look. Manchester City Hall has a great private stairwell. I had the groom Allan stand with his back to his beautiful bride. She approached from the lower level and then he turned to see her there in her amazing wedding dress. Yes, they both had a few tears. After the short ceremony, we heading outside to create some artful bridal portraits. This is always one of my favorite parts of the day. They liked my style and let me direct them into many poses giving them a wide variety of photos in the end. Here are a few of my best picks from their wedding day photography.

Traveling for things you want is a big part of life, for most people. Today, a mother and daughter drove four hours from Connecticut to to meet me in New Hampshire, to create senior portraits. Emma, the daughter, wanted to have her photos done in a very special place, from her childhood and teens years. She not only attended Camp Calumet, in Ossipee, New Hampshire, as a girl, but then returned as a teen to work at the camp as a lifeguard. Not only was the location a place filled with childhood memories, but it was also breathtakingly beautiful! There were had so many spots to shoot from. Ossipee lake with the mountains in the background. We had a forest full of colored leaves and an adorable wooden bridge with a dry river under it, to choose from for photos. She really wanted a photo on the lifeguard stand, where she worked and created so many memories.  As we made photo memories of this time in her life, I could tell that it was truly bittersweet for Emma and her mother. I felt honored to hold the space for such powerful emotions. I was hoping to not only capture the beauty of the area, but also capture the feelings of joy and nostalgia of the experience of her returning there. I loved Emma’s ideas and the props she brought, such as a beloved teddy bear from her childhood. She also brought some sheet music that she wanted in a photo with or laying sheet music on the grass to be photographed with. This photo shoot with Emma and her mother truly moved me. It was such a special place, because Emma felt so happy revisiting such a special place. The photo shoot, in itself, was a new and powerful memory for Emma and her mother. It was such an honor to capture this moment in time of growing up and moving forward and letting go. It was not only a photo shoot. It was a rite of passage and one that I will never forget facilitating for this beautiful family.

Here is a sneak peak of just a few photos from Emma’s day. Thank you, Emma and Jean. I hope the day was just as special for you as it was for me.

Senior Portrait Season In New Hampshire | Kennett High School Class of 2016 Seniors

Senior Portrait Season In New Hampshire | Kennett High School Class of 2016 Seniors

Schools are almost back in session. With that, comes a new year of seniors that need their photos taken for the yearbook and for a keepsake of their accomplishment of making it to the end of their schooling.  Last season.  I had the pleasure to meet and photograph Madison. She was a bit shy and nervous when we first met, which is to be expected. She brought her mom with her and we starting chatting, and Madison had time to get more comfortable when we discussed what she was looking for in her photos. The rest is photogenic history. Her senior portraits were due the next week, after our session. She had put off the photos until that last minute, which was no problem. It was cold outdoors and we made use of my indoor studio for most of her session.  We spent two hours taking many photos, so she had tons to choose from. Her Mom assisted her with a wardrobe change half way through the the session, so she could have two very different looks and style, that reflected the different sides of her personality. Here is a small selection from Madison’s portrait session.

What Is Style? | Wedding Photographers Style

One might think that every wedding is the same. In some ways they are. Two people in love are telling their closest friends and family that they love this person like no other. There is a dress and suits, rings, flowers and wedding cake. They share tears of joy. So, if you think all weddings are the same you are half right. The above listed things are what makes weddings the same. The couples taste, style, wants and needs, are what makes each wedding different and unique.

Some weddings are young couples and others are couples that met later in life. There can be a large change in styles from one to the other. This is what can get you hired. Newlyweds Engagement Photo Shoot In Franklin, New Hampshire

Newlyweds Engagement Photo Shoot In Franklin, New Hampshire

This engagement session started off like most, with short introductions and a bit of background on each other. The couple lives on an amazing property in Franklin, New Hampshire. It had apple trees, open fields, barns and wooded lots. It was a toss up as to what location to use first. We picked the apples tress. The flowers had passed already, but the location was still beautiful. We moved to the barn and lastly, we went to the grooms grandparents lakeside home the last several photos.  The groom is an EMT and works with the local fire department. We incorporated some of his gear into a photo or two.  As we talked about the wedding day and the plans they had we started to build a connection that will surly carry over to their wedding day. I am looking forward to this fall wedding over at The Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, N.H.. I look forward to seeing the couple soon!
Here is a few from the session. Happy engagement and again congratulations!

The Day After – Same Sex Marriage In NH |New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

The Day After – Same Sex Marriage In NH |New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

They say timing is everything. This one was right on the money. The day after the Supreme Court made same sex marriage legal in all fifty U.S. states, I had the great fortune to be part of one. I had this wedding booked for sometime. The timing of the courts actions was just divine. It made their day even more special. The wedding was great. We started on time had a fifteen minute ceremony were both of the brides shared the vows they had written for each other. They were short and loving. Talking a bit about their time together so far on their journey. There was many smiles and looks back at the guests as if to let them all know they were important to the couple. The couple had chose to have a firsts look before the wedding. They had spent the early part of the day together with their wedding party. The only time they were apart was to put on their wedding dresses. I walked one bride to the meeting spot and had the other joins us ten minutes later. The second bride walked into the garden and down the steps to her sweetheart. I had her pause so I could capture a few photos of her by herself before they saw each other. Here are a few of my picks and favorite images of the first look for this beautiful same sex wedding.

Taking Photos Of The Guests Ties At Weddings | Photographers Blog

Taking Photos Of The Guests Ties At Weddings | Photographers Blog

PHOTO OF THE DAY: TIE IT ALL TOGETHER

One item I include with my wedding package and one of my favorite features of my wedding photography is the photo slide show I create once the photos are all edited and delivered to the clients. It is more of a story telling slide show of the wedding day form beginning to end. It is important to me to tell the story of the day. It is a great way for the couple and their guests to recall the day and relive it over and over when ever they feel that need. In a way it helps me stay focused on the details of the day. It makes me stay sharp not wanting to miss a single part of the action. The video is made from about 125-140 of what I feel are not only the best photos from the day but the best photos that tell the story of the wedding. I thing I started to do form the first wedding I offered the slide shows was to take photos of the guests ties. I would approach the male guests and make a comment out how I liked the tie they had on and asked, could I please take a photo of it. So would have a look on their face as to ask why, others just said sure. I would share with them I would be make a slide show from the photos and I would use the ties to tie the video together. As the day progresses the scenes change. From wedding set up to the ceremony then formal photos ending at the reception a place that many big events happen. We have the couples intro the parent and first dance we cut the cake then toss the flowers. There is dancing parting and fun all around. All can be told with still photos in a short time line with my video slide show. As the video moves form the early part of the day to the end I use the photos of the ties to transition to the next event. “Tying” the day together. At some weddings there are only cool ties and I can not add them all to the slide show. I end up using around 6-8 ties in the video. I think it an original idea and one that I always look forward to on wedding days.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO: Here you see a few of the type of photos that I use for the slide show break. These are a few of the ties I took photo of at a 2014 southern NH wedding. The photos are edited using the same style that the rest of the set of photos was editing so they are in line with the feel and look of the wedding day. I capture as many photo of the guests ties as I can. It not only is a go or way to connect with the family and guests, but it gives me more options once I set up the slide show as I can not go back and get more photos if I feel I need more. Thanks for stopping bu my site. If you our someone you know is getting married in or around New Hampshire please contact me to set up a meeting and talk about your wedding day photography. Ties are my thing. I use them in the slide shows to change form one location to another.
