Essex Room Wedding Venue – Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

Essex Room Wedding Venue – Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

With the New England wedding season in full swing. I had the opportunity to go to a Massachusetts wedding venue I had not been to before. It is called the Essex Room in Essex, MA
Not only was the staff there amazing the venue was also. Nice white celling for bouncing some flash off. They have a great ceremony site right out front of the Essex Room with a great vista out the back for create a few hero shoots. We used the pretty garden space to take some family photos after the couple was married and to make some bridal photos, well because it is a garden.

Essex room wedding venue

Bri & Leigh found me online like most f the couples I have worked with. After a few emails we hopped on a short phone call and they were happy to book me for their wedding. We had never met in person but talked again two weeks prior to the wedding. Once we met I knew it would be a great day with two beautiful brides. The ceremony was hosted by a close friend and I would have to say he was one of the best officiants I have seen to date. A few short jokes and a story or two and the kiss was made. He sent the couple off with the announcement of the new joined couple. As the wedding guests went off to the cocktail hour I made short order of the family photos and sent the family off to enjoy the party.
This is when I do what every I can to make magic. To create the “hero” images. They will for sure (or I hope) will cherish for years to come.

Wedding Day Slide Show | Wedding at Camp Cody Freedom, NH

Wedding Day Slide Show | Wedding at Camp Cody Freedom, NH

You saw the first look now look at this wedding day slide show. This is a 5 minute video set to music that tells part of the love story from this day in May 2017. The venue has rooms, houses and yurts that guests and family may book their stay in. This way they can stay late and enjoy the wedding all day long. Camp Cody sets on the side of Ossipee Lake in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It may not be close to the airport but is very close to nature. What the camp offers that I think is the true draw. Is that it feels a little like childhood. What I mean by that is. most of us went to some type of camp, retreat or even cabin in the woods as a child or a young teen. Camp Cody offers that feeling. They do a great job with weddings also. I have shot two there in 2017 so far. For me it is great for these reasons and also one other. I leave just 10 miles from the camp. Even know people travel many hours to get to the wedding venue. It is totally worth it. With sunsets and the cool lake air. It is a vacation to just be there.  I put together this slide show form one of the weddings I photographed. Please turn the sound up and enjoy the show. Please share if your friends and family that could not make it on this day.

Harbor View at Jones Landing Wedding on Peaks Island, Maine | Getting Married in Maine

Harbor View at Jones Landing Wedding on Peaks Island, Maine | Getting Married in Maine

Last evening’s wedding at The Harbor View at Jones Landing on Peaks Island, Maine, was like a dance party, fused with rain, friends and celebration. The kids rocked out so hard that we almost missed the boat back to the mainland in Portland, Maine. The rain came near the end of the evening, but the wedding was not dampened by the weather. Our short beach photo shoot went on as planned, luckily. I returned home to our electricity being out, so I could not get the photos onto my computer until Sunday morning. Here is one shot from the beach. Myself and the couple had made the journey via golf cart and found it almost empty when we waked down the ramp. I love this photo of both the bride and groom together, individually in thought. I feel it represents their union as a couple, and at the same time honors them as individuals. The wind grabbing her vale, naturally becoming the focus of the photo. Thanks John and Joslin for including me on this most special of days. If you want to know more about this Maine wedding venue please see the post were I interview Robin Clark from the Harbor View at Jones Landing.  She answered all the frequently asked questions about the popular Maine wedding venue

I was honored to be part of another great wedding in New Hampshire as a photographer. I had to share a few of my favorite photos from the day at The Margate Resort in Laconia, NH,. With The Lakeside Pavilion and tented reception area, this wedding venue makes for a special destination for weddings in New Hampshire. The lake as the back drop is great for photos. The sunset was epic and the bride and groom were happy to take a walk to the waters edge for a short photo session. One thing I want to do at weddings is not only create amazing images for my couples, I want to make sure that their needs come first and foremost. If they want to take the time to create some sunsets portraits, I do my very best to do so quickly and efficiently, so that they are only away from their family and friends for as short of time as possible. We headed to the beach and dock area with the bridal party with the flower girls in tow. I will have more to post later. Be sure to check back for the slide show from this great wedding.

The first look was at 4:45 PM. It was followed with a short bridal portrait shoot on the beach. I used some off camera flash to darken the sky and light the couple. I am happy with how the photos came out! (They are the first few in the series below.) We walked down the beach to the house they had rented for the wedding. They had a big white tent set up, music playing and you could hear laughter. We started on some family photos as the guests enjoyed the cocktail hour before the ceremony started. The couple and the family made their way to the beach to witness the wedding. The ceremony was performed by the grooms father. He did a great job. He made a few jokes and touched a few hearts. After the couple was pronounced, the family hugged and kissed the couple and we headed back up to the yard of the house to have the reception party. The couple wanted to go back to the beach to create some more photos. I was happy to do so. The last few photos in this set is what we created on the return trip to the beach. Kennebunkport, Maine, is a beautiful area with a long beach front that was more, or less, private. There isn’t anywhere to park, unless you have a home there. This makes for a nice place to vacation or live. I have another wedding there later this year. I really hope it is on that same beach with another amazing couple. Thanks Kassie and Bill. I wish you many happy years ahead.

These wedding day slide shows. I am not sure if creating the images or this slide show is my favorite part of a wedding. After the human interaction and feeling of the day that is. Once the wedding day has passed the couple has each other and family. We as photographers have memories that were captured in images throughout the day. In short enough time we are off to a new wedding a new couple and a new feeling. The slide show is a great way to have the days feelings revised over and over. Please share with your family and friends that maybe did not make it to the wedding. Thanks again Jake & Lauren.

The planning was for months. The favors were handmade. The cake, the food and the dress were all set up months ahead of time. The plan was in motion. The couple had a wedding planner. They had the DJ and me, the photographer. I met with the couple at Dexter’s Inn at the wedding venue in Sunapee, N.H.. We walked the grounds and made a plan for the wedding day photos. We had planned the “First Look” in the field before the wedding. . We made great photos in between the rain showers. The bride, cool as the other side of the pillow. It was *her* day. Rain or not, she was there for *him* not the weather. It was a perfect day. Love was made.

Weddings at Pats Peak. I have done a few there. Great venue and staff. The couples love it for many reasons. The big one being that they love skiing or snowboarding. S, it is a way of bringing that winter fun to their wedding. The cake topper was a look-alike of the bride and groom (coming in a later post). One great thing about shooting the same venue multiple times is that, as a photographer, I know hto take them for nice looking bridal portraits. Like this couple (the Green Converse couple), they wanted to take the time to make a few wedding portraits before they went in for their cocktail party. I was happy too. As a photographer, the photos are important, but not as important as a happy couple is. Here is a couple of photos from this night at Pats Peak. Hope you enjoy! Please feel free to comment or share this post with your friends. Tell everyone that Pats Peak is a great place to have a wedding.

Kayla & Dave. I wish the best for you in the years to come. Being at a young couple wedding is always exciting and at times emotional. Kayla your fathers toast was special to many there. It was great to be witness to your vows and be part of your day. You both are lucky to know and have each other. Even in the little time I had with you this day. I could tell you are both genuine, kind people. I wanted to share a sneak peek with you. Here are two that jumped out at me one a quick pass over your wedding images.

Today, I wanted to share about a young couple, a beautiful day and an amazing location. Here we go again! The wedding season in New Hampshire has official begun! This April day wedding brought me to the southern New Hampshire wedding venue at Dell Lea Weddings & Events in Chichester. The weather was perfect. The sun was warm and the air was cool. With a few clouds above this picturesque venue, the day was off to a great start.

As family and friends started to gather in the hall, the bride was in the suite upstairs, adding the final touches to her elegant look. The groom and his grooms man were helping to add the final touches to the photo booth and helping their children get ready for the wedding ceremony. The groomsmen lined up and the music for the ceremony began. The bridesmaids began to walk across the lawn. The officiant shared a few words about the couples back story. How they met and their work background was a big part of their story as a couple. After the rings were exchanged and they ended the ceremony with a kiss, the bride and groom turned towards their friends and family with big smiles and began the walk together. The rest of the day was a smooth and came off wonderfully.

I went right into shooting some family portraits, starting with the brides list of requested photos. We moved around the property. The stone walls the front lawn in the apple trees. The venue had a tool shed on the property and. I had the couple pose for a moody shot in front of it. I shot solo portraits of each member of the bridal party and their significant others. I took a few final group shots with the entire family, including both the bride and grooms family.

After the formal photos, everyone relaxed and the party was underway. There was dancing, eating and family connection. The dance floor was rocking most all night with the DJ dropping the latests hits mixed in with some old favorites. As a photographer on a wedding day that has no wedding planner I take the role as a partner with the couple the DJ and the venue, if they desire that from me.. This day was smooth and fun. I wish only the best for these two families that became one. I wanted to share a few of the wedding photos from this beautiful, New Hampshire wedding day. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Off all the DIY weddings I have photographed this was by far the one with the most involvement by family and friends.  The wedding was at the brides parents home in historic Chester, New Hampshire.  They set the big white tent up in the horse corral. What better why to have your wedding then with your childhood horse near by? We entered the tent by passing thought the bard and past the horses. The mother of the bride made the cake the cookies and so many small details that made this the DIY wedding of anyones dreams. With friends and family in attendance the wedding went off without a snag. Happy wedding day to all Bronwyn & Andrew. View the photo gallery here

Why do I focus on wedding photography? What is not to love about being at 25+ weddings each summer. It is all about love. Family friends and couples together and in love. Sharing memories creating new ones. Who would not want to be part of this most happiest of days? I get to see this world from the inside and the outside. I get to be behind the scenes and right out in front of the crowd. Being a wedding photographer is not for the shy or introverted person. Sure most of the day we as photographers are quite in the wings hiding out in the shadows. Then there is the times when we need to capture the marriage ceremony, the first kiss. the parent dances and the cake cutting. Weddings are my joy.

In the small town of Jackson, N.H., is a resort named, The Wentworth. It is a well known Inn in the area and is snug right in the middle of town. The Wentworth is a popular wedding venue in the Mount Washington Valley. The ceremony that I attended there was in a small field next to the venue. The Wentworth gazebo is set at the base of Jackson Falls, a popular tourist destination, and is a beautiful settling for a wedding. The guests were arriving and made their way to the site. The couple was dressed and ready to, say, “I do,” and begin their celebration of their new life together. The parents, grandparents and other family members stayed at the site, after the wedding, for some photos. Then, the bridal party jumped in to a limousine so we could drive around and work on some photos at a few special places that they had in mind.

We first went to the famous, Jackson Covered Bridge. It is an old, wooden bridge that was build in 1876. It is also known as Honeymoon Bridge or Covered Bridge No. 51. On the way back to the hotel,we stopped at the in town pond to capture the couple in a reflection. As they came out of the bus, Mark, the groom, headed right over a couple that was already there that were fishing. He talked to them for a bit and then I saw them handing over their fishing gear to the bride and groom! I was surprised and impressed that he was so bold as to ask to borrow their gear for some photos. I love working with such confidence and creative couples. I was able to take a few shots of them fishing. the groom even hooked one! We stopped at the stone bridge and the Jackson Library for a few emotive photographs before heading to the reception. They danced, cut their cake and rocked out to the live band, Gazpacho. (They were a fabulous wedding band, and highly I recommend them.)

It was a beautiful day and a day full of laughter and love. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day. Thanks Jen & Mark for the great day! It was an honor to work with you to capture the joy and beauty of your day!

Wedding In Poland, Maine | Wolf Cove Inn Wedding Venue | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

Wedding In Poland, Maine | Wolf Cove Inn Wedding Venue | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog: 198

It was a beautiful warm day in Poland, Maine. (Yes! There is a Poland, Maine!) The couple was like most others. Young, in love and surrounded by family and friends. There was one thing about this couple that was different then most others. they had traveled over a thousand miles to say “I do.”. The couple had flown to Maine to have their wedding at this great Bed & Breakfast The Wolf Cove Inn.

Like most days, I packed up my gear and headed off early in the day. I had said goodbye to my loving family and traveled into Maine to meet another. Being that the couple was from Texas, they had a small, select group of family and friends with them on this special day. We were able to do a “first look” shoot. just before the wedding. I love doing these, as it makes the wedding time more relaxed by getting the nervousness of them seeing each other for the first time, out of the way. Part of my wedding photography style is creating photos that tell a story from the day, at the same time, creating a mood of being together – yet being separate people. I love to honor the wholeness of the union, as well as the wholeness of the individual. It makes my work stand out and takes partnership and equality to the next level, in comparison to a more “traditional” style wedding photography, which often times carries an energy of the woman being subservient, or frail. I love two show the bride and groom as equally powerful and ready to step into this new chapter in their lives.

Before a first look I try to create at lest one photo that is moody or something not tipical of most wedding photography. This time it was the boat house photo. The photo was taken just before the “first look” photos were taken. The couple could not see each other. I wanted to capture the energy of loving anticipation between them. I first had the groom take his place in the boat house. I then walked the bride out and down the stairs. I reminded him not to look over in her direction. He had a wall to his right so she was out of view. They could hear each other and talked a bit. I had to walk out on to the small boat dock to take the photo and capture this moment.

Most people do not realize the thought and creativity involved in the work of a professional wedding photographer. Vision, timing, confidence, great effort and extreme focus to detail is paramount. I intentionally capture the uniqueness of the each couple and instead of taking the “cookie-cutter” wedding photos, I promise the couple a uniqueness that will make their photos stand out and carry incredible emotion.

I love what I do and the couples that I work with are all special and I never forget the moment of fulfillment, when a photo like this, goes from conception of an idea to… art. I am grateful to the couples who are willing to trust me and work on a combined vision. It is always an honor and this Maine wedding was no exception.

Intimate Family Wedding At Christmas Farm Inn & Spa, Jackson NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

Intimate Family Wedding At Christmas Farm Inn & Spa, Jackson NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

New Hampshire Wedding Photographer Blog: 190

This summer I witnessed many different styles of weddings. One common thread that was present at each wedding was love from family and friends. I photographed a small intimate wedding at the Christmas Farm Inn & Spa, in Jackson NH. There was a total of 13 people at the ceremony included the bride and groom. It did not matter the number of people because the amount of love was at maximum capacity. When i first met Melissa, I saw right away she was an easy going and fun bride. What made it even better was that her soon-to-be- husband was all about what ever she wanted to do for photos. Before the wedding started, we did a “first look.” That is a time for the groom to see his bride for the first time that day or the first time in her dress. Before the first look, we had them together using a small old barn as a space to be together, yet not see each other yet. Then we picked a nice spot on the lawn near some trees and a small arbor. Once the couple had joined they chatted for a bit and took some candid photos. Then, we made some bride portraits. I love to use the doors or large buildings, as a way to take advantage of negative space. I feel, at times, these moody photos add a feeling of togetherness even know the couple is posed away from each other. Once the “I Do’s” were said, we headed down the street to Jackson Falls for some photos. After we came back to the venue at the Christmas Farm Inn for dinner. Dinner¬†was so good and a nice dinning atmosphere, but before dinner we did a few shots at the inn itself. Here are some of my favorite picks!. Please comment below if you enjoy the photos. What one is your favorite? Also I would love to ask a favor of you. With all the ways people can help each other you could truly help me is by letting any one you know that is getting married of my work. Maybe you are getting married soon and are looking for photographers? I love to work is couples plaining their wedding and making all the couples wishes come true.

Gratitude For a Friend at His Wedding | Burlington Vermont Wedding Day Photos

Gratitude For a Friend at His Wedding | Burlington Vermont Wedding Day Photos

Ever weekend or nearly every one this summer I was at a wedding. I saw the happiest of days for many young couples. I was witness to the joining of two families ever few days. It is truly amazing to be part of each and every wedding. Being the photographer the day is spent always on the move and only at small moments here and there do you get the opportunity  to enjoy the bliss the couple and families are part of. Well that was until I had the opportunely to photograph a close friends wedding. Again another young couple and the joining of two families. The wedding was on a Sunday in the beautiful state of Vermont.  From the moment I had heard of the couples engagement I knew I would offer to shoot the wedding as my gift to the couple.
After returning home form a wedding the night before this weeing. I did what I always do on a multi wedding weekend. I transfered files from the SD cards. I charged batteries and gave my gear a quick whip down and made sure it was all in the bag before I headed of to bed.

The days was a beautiful fall early fall day. Crisp air and hot sun all in one. As I left my home and traveled the 160 miles I was taken up and over some great vistas and passes that took me over mountings and over rivers. As I neared the half way point and maybe what was the highest elevation on the trip. The clouds were closing in and I was looking for rain to hit my wind shield at any moment. It never did rain. I decided the other side of the valley and as I came down the clouds tined out the the amazing weather continued right thought the day.  This wedding was at the Town Hall in Shelburne, Vt. It was perfect for the couples vision and fit so well into the wedding ceremony.  The wedding was short and sweet. There was two emotional reads form friends then the couple exchanged their vows and had their kiss and the families became one.

We headed out side for some photos and the hall was a great place for that. The pillars on the front of the building provided a great framing for the family photos. We headed back inside to remove the decorations they had set up and get ready to head off to the reception. I had them pose for a few photos in the hall and as we headed out I had them pose for a great shot outside again using the hall as the backdrop. I really had a great day being at the wedding and being their photographer.

We headed over to the brides families shop. Did i say they make amazing chocolates? Well they do. It was an amazing room. So clean and fresh. The colors were perfect and the size was a great fit for the wedding party and their guests. We ate a great meal. They cut the cake and yes we ate chocolate. They had set out a great selection of  truffles for us to sample and sample we did. Thanks again to Bijou Fine Chocolate for hosting this special day for the couple and off curse your daughter.  Here are a few photos form the hall.

Rainy Day Wedding At The Zorvino Winery Venue | Southern New Hampshire Wedding Photography

Rainy Day Wedding At The Zorvino Winery Venue | Southern New Hampshire Wedding Photography

With all the planning that goes into a wedding, the one thing you can never fully plan for is weather. The couple picks the wedding venue months, even years, ahead. As the date gets closer and you see the weather is looking to be bad. Bad meaning rain. There is only so much you can do about it. Well the Zorvino Winery wedding venue in Sandown, NH., did all they could to try and save this day. They even sent a crew out to try and dry the chairs the guests would be using. It was just too wet. Off and on again rain moved this wedding to inside the venue. At Zorvino it did not matter. As beautiful as the grounds are, the interior of the winery is just as nice.  Once the wedding ceremony had finished and the couple was officially married, we did dodge some rain drops and heading outside to get some bridal portraits. With the weather the way it was and time moving closer to the introduction of the couple and the start of the reception, we moved fast and were able to create a great amount of imagery. Here are just a few of my picks to share for today. One of the couples daughter and one of the boys in the wedding party wanted to do a jump shot. I think they nailed it! Happy wedding day and cheers to many happy years together, Stacey & Mike.

New Hampshire Wedding at The Wentworth Inn Venue in Jackson | NH Photographers Sneak Peek

New Hampshire Wedding at The Wentworth Inn Venue in Jackson | NH Photographers Sneak Peek

With the end of summer wedding season in New Hampshire about to start rolling, I was so happy to meet back up with a couple from an engagement shoot a few weeks ago. See some of the engagement photos here. I wanted to share a few photos from that day. These two were my picks from this wedding. The photos are below, but first a quick story.  The sun was shinning. The wedding was outside in a field next to beautiful The Wentworth Inn, in the village of Jackson, N.H.. It was like a lot of outdoor weddings. It was short and sweet. The rings were passed. There was a kiss, the couple was announced and with that, we all headed off to do some photos. We hit the old covered bridge down the road. We had a few poses there, then we headed back to the Inn. On the way back I was ahead of the limo that was transporting the wedding party. I saw a small pond at the public park and with quick thinking, I jumped out of my car and flagged the limo to stop. I asking the bride and groom if they wanted to do a reflecting photo near the water. The timing was great. There was a couple there fishing. The groom walked up asked them something and they handed their fishing poles to the bride and groom.  As you can see from the photos, it was a great spot for some photos and a nice little fishing hole. The groom hooked one.

Congratulations Jen & Mark. Cheers to many years of happiness and joy.

What Is Style? | Wedding Photographers Style

One might think that every wedding is the same. In some ways they are. Two people in love are telling their closest friends and family that they love this person like no other. There is a dress and suits, rings, flowers and wedding cake. They share tears of joy. So, if you think all weddings are the same you are half right. The above listed things are what makes weddings the same. The couples taste, style, wants and needs, are what makes each wedding different and unique.

Some weddings are young couples and others are couples that met later in life. There can be a large change in styles from one to the other. This is what can get you hired. Having a style that is up to change. A style that suits your couples. Being a customers service agent is part of being in the photography business. You need to be educated, in not only lighting, gear and poses, but you need to be able to edit in a way that the couples will find to their liking.  Style can make or break a booking. So, be open to change and shoot for your not only your current client but shoot with style create future client bookings.
