Camp Pinecliffe Wedding in Harrison, ME | Wedding Blog

Last month was a crazy one for a wedding photographer. It was full of meeting new clients and also shooting every weekend. I have many weekends with two weddings. It is all fun and enjoyable with each one being unique and special. Amanda & Ryan's wedding was one of the weddings I had the pleasure of attending. It was held at the Pinecliffe Camp in Harrison, Maine. The camp does not host weddings normally but they did an amazing job putting this one together. The weather was on the edge of rain almost all day and we even had a little shower. It held off until after the couple was married, which worked out well as it started just before they were introduced and then stopped again. The timing of the rain was perfect so we could return to the lake for some couples portraits. They were happy to have me pose them and we created some great photos. Here is a few of my favorites from the day. You can see that the sky had some texture in the clouds and the lake provided a great location as well as the flower garden.

For the month of October family and friends take 50% off all print products when you use CODE: WFF50

Weddings at Mt Sunapee | New Hampshire Wedding Photos

I have been to Suanpee, NH many times this year for weddings. This one was at Mt Sunapee. They do a great job there. They have the wedding venue set up so that the cocktail party is on the firsts floor. Then dinner is served on the second floor. We return to the first floor for dancing and cake. Every one likes cake, right? It makes for a great night. Plenty of space and the venue staff have time to clean up. It is like a fresh new room when the wedding guests come down to party. This wedding was at the base of the mountain near the pond. After the ceremony the couple wanted to do some family photos. Looking around for a spot that had some shade to get out of the 85 degree sunshine. I saw this nice spot over near the chairlift. We powered through the family shots and some wedding party photos. Then it was just the couple. I asked if they wanted to use the downed breach trees as a backdrop. They were happy to. Here is two photos from they spot. Just a couple of quick photos and we headed off to the reception. Looking forward to my next trip to another Sunapee wedding.  2016

Weddings in New Hampshire| Getting Married in the Summer in New Hampshire

New Hampshire is a great place to live. We have 4 seasons. Whether it is winter with our big snow storms and cold nights or the colorful foliage in the fall there is something for most anyone here in New Hampshire. In between winter and fall we have some great summer weather. The days can be hot but most nights cool down to a nice temperature that is very bearable even without any temperature control. The summer months are pretty much the wedding season here . Do some people have weddings in the winter months? Sure they do. What I am saying is there are not a lot of couples looking to get married over the winter months. From late November right through March the wedding bookings crawl to almost a stop. The longer I have been in business as a wedding photographer the more this trend was been the norm. In the summer months I get multiple requests for many of the same dates. The reason this is, is there are so many great wedding venues. If you are looking to get married up in northern New Hampshire at venues like Mountain View Grand Resort  or The Rocks Estate or  maybe more near the southern boarder at venues like LaBelle Winery or the Mile Away Restaurant Restaurant or a spot in the middle of the state, like The Margate Resort or Eagle Mountain House.  Each with their unique style and attraction. Many of the wedding venues here in New Hampshire have bodies of water, mountain views and wooden backdrops as creative places to take photos. With many venues able to handle large groups. The one they you need to really do homework on is what the venues do in the case of bad weather. Not just rain but summer heat. I have been to a few weddings that were just so hot that some of the older family members had issues being in the sun. This is something to consider when you plan your wedding at 2 PM. For those mid to late summer weddings you may want to think about a later or early start time to that your guest are not in the mid day sun. One option might be to make sure the wedding ceremony is as short as you can make it. I know you only get married once I am not suggesting that you have such a short ceremony that you cut all the special moments out. Just be open to maybe change a few things last minuter if it is one of th every hot summer days.   As a photographer I have seen many different types of weather, heat cold. The heat has to be the worst.

Advice for New Hampshire Brides Wanting the Best Christmas Farm Inn & Spa Wedding | Wedding Venues i

This week I was fortunate to ask the wedding planner at The Christmas Farm Inn & Spa my venue questions. Below are her very helpful and informative replies. Set just up the hill from Jackson Village. This Private hideaway hosts two wedding spaces with their Rustic Barn being the first to book. YOU can get some great sunset photos for your wedding album and guests can stay and mingle  around the camp fire once the reception has ended.

1. Number of guest that you can accommodate at The Christmas Farm Inn?

Our historic, 18th century Barn features a 12-foot wide fieldstone fireplace and high ceilings. This is the perfect space for an intimate, festive wedding for up to 85 guests. Larger weddings of up to 175 guests are hosted in a tent on our lawns from mid-May to early October

2. What sets your wedding venue apart form other?

The Christmas Farm Inn has a wide array of guests rooms to suit everyone’s taste and budget, ranging from cozy Inn rooms to individual, well-sized cottages to our lovely mini suites complete with jacuzzi baths, fireplaces and comfortable lounges. Our property can accommodate a total of 125 guests.

Our property goes beyond what people see from the road. Many couples are amazed to find out we own 15-acres of land and our property extends beyond the road and the Main Inn. The cottages, Carriage House suites, and Barn feel tucked away, providing a more private and intimate event.

Guests love the history of the Inn dating back 200 years! There’s something interesting for everyone who stays here.

With a full restaurant and kitchen on site, we can offer everything you need without having to leave the property. Rehearsal dinners, wedding ceremonies and receptions, breakfast in the morning for Inn guests, and so much more are offered on-site.

We customize each wedding to the individual couple. Don’t like what you see? Let’s talk about it and find a way to make your vision work with our property.

We also offer a Winter Wedding Sale Package that runs from January-April. This is a fantastic package that includes all of the vendors, the ceremony and reception space, and so much more! More information can be found on our website: http://christmasfarminn.com/nh-wedding/sale-wedding-venues-nh/

3. What are some of the top menu items on offer?

- Filet & Lobster

- Bourbon beef tips

- Breast of Chicken Chardonnay

- Pork Tenderloin Roulade

4. How far out should couples be looking to book their date? (how full is 2017-18)

2017 is filling up quickly! We still have openings in the summer for tent and Barn weddings and a few weekends left in the fall! 2018 still has most weekends available.

I would recommend booking 8 months in advance. We are happy to accommodate weddings booked within a shorter time frame and also have couples who book over a year in advance. Fall is our most popular and sought after time; the earlier you can book these dates, the better!

5. In a few words (or a lot) what does a wedding look like at your location? If you were talking to someone, how would you describe your venue?

Spend time in the morning getting your hair and make-up done with your friends and family or indulge with a facial or massage at our on-site AVEDA Spa. Our wonderful technicians will pamper you and help you relax on your big day.

Choose between our indoor ceremony space in front of a large, fieldstone fireplace in the Great Room of our Carriage House, or take advantage of great weather and use our outdoor Arbor to say your vows and tie the knot.

Our Barn is a private, intimate space that can be made as formal or as informal as the couple likes. With soft, white lights around the perimeter of the room and a lit, large fireplace, the ambiance is warm, inviting, and romantic during dinner. Then, make use of the dance floor to dance with your guests and party the night away to the tunes from your DJ.

Our wonderful staff will cater to your needs and provide exceptional, friendly service to you and your guests throughout your entire stay.

Couples can enjoy a complimentary night stay on their wedding night in one of our Carriage House Suites. All suites have their own private balconies and jacuzzi tubs.

6. Top 5 tips for new brides getting married at you wedding venue?

- Stay as organized as possible! Organization can prevent unnecessary stress. Use different binders for each vendor, save all emails, etc. Find a method that works for you.

- Visit the venue before your wedding. Use this time to meet with your coordinator, do your tasting, do a hair and make-up trial, and meet with your vendors.

- Don’t procrastinate. The earlier you start planning, the less stress you will feel as your wedding date approaches.

- Ask for help from a few of your close friends, bridal party, or family members during your wedding weekend. Assign people simple tasks to help alleviate your stress. This can be anything from helping decorate the reception/ceremony space upon arrival to putting together and organizing welcome bags.

- Ask questions when you need help. As your event planner, I’m here to and guide you in any way I can!

Kati & Derek | Wedding at Tumbledown Farms | Wedding Venues in New Hampshire

Todays post brings us to the New Hampshire wedding venue, Tumbledown Farms in Brookfield.  When looking for a wedding venue there are many factors to consider. Location is a big factor. Tumbledown Farms sits right between the  White Mountains and The Lake Regions of New Hampshire.  The venue has plenty of parking and can accommodate up to 175 guests. When you have your wedding at  Tumbledown Farms you have the venue for the whole weekend. They only book one event per weekend so if you need time to set up and take down your wedding details you have from noon time Friday until noon time Sunday to use the barn.  They truly give you that DIY wedding if you want it. The barn is wedding ready but most couple like to add a personally touch. When you get married at Tumbledown Farms the ceremony is in a large field set with chairs with the most amazing backdrop of the New Hampshire mountains. There you may want to have your family photos done following your wedding. Your guests will be giving a ride back to the barn for cocktail hour on the farms tractor with their large wagon or they can make the 5 minute walk through the open fields and wooded path. Your guest will be treated to your selected appetizers as they await your return. The Farm is also a BOYB venue so you can let your guests have a good time without paying for every drink. Lets face it your wedding is a once in a life time event for you and your guests. You are then introduced and the reception/party will begin. The Farm does the catering for you. They have many offerings available. From prime rib and chicken to fresh salads and local grown vegetables. When considering the location to host your New Hampshire wedding. I would put Tumbledown Farms near the top of that list. For more information about Tumbledown Farms wedding venue please email cheryl@tumbledownfarms.com for additional information.

Wedding at Brookstone Park Derry, NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

My last wedding of 2016 was last week at the wedding venue Brookstone Park in Derry, NH. I wanted to share a few photo from this great day before I head off for a week on vacation. The couple braved the cold air to have the ceremony outside in early November.  The venue space was new and felt inviting. I would for sure recommend it to any couples looking for a wedding venue in New Hampshire.

Why Backup Gear is Key for Wedding Photographers | New Hampshire Wedding Blog

The wedding ceremony was over. The food was served and the cake was cut. The dancing was winding down. We were about to leave the wedding. I walked over to a table that had the bride, groom the brides parents and two of her brothers. It was not some epic sunset photo, but I felt it was a great way to end the night. I asked for a photo before I left. I raised my camera pushed the shutter and... no flash. What!? I was just taking photos of people on the dance floor. I apologized and shared that I killed my batteries. I ran over to me gear case. I popped it open and grabbed a second flash gun. I traded the flashes and was back at the table within thirty seconds. So ya....have back up batteries and flash gear! It was embarrassing enough to have to change out the flash. I can only imagine how it would have felt fumbling around changing the batteries out. I am so glad that I brought a backup flash gun! It paid off to plan ahead.. just in case. #havebackupgear

Perfect Weather for a Nahant Country Club Wedding | Nahant MA | NH Wedding Photography Blog

The sun was shinning the weather was perfect. It was one of those not to hot not to cold days. It was just right. The setting for this wedding was at the Nahant Country Club. The ceremony was outside the party was in the ball room. We had to go to the beach for some photos. It was less then a mile away. The couple had hired the trolley for the day. It was our private shuttle to the water. Amy was getting ready in the bridal suite as Will greeted family and guest on the front lawn. Following the ceremony the wedding party and myself hoped on the trolley and off we went. We returned to a room full of family and friends waiting for the couple to be introduced and get this party started. The room was a great space for a party. The DJ took over as the night rolled on. Here is a few of the photos from the day. Amy & Will thanks again for including me on your wedding day.

Ragged Mountain Wedding | Danbury New Hampshire | Wedding Photographers Blog

With my 2016 wedding session coming to a close. I had one last double wedding weekend. This past Saturday I was at Ragged Mountain in Danbury, NH a the wedding of a young couple form Massachusetts. After a long dry summer with close to drought like conditions. We have had rain almost non stop for 48 hours. Both these weekend weddings had to be moved to an inside location.  The rain had let up just long enough to head our side for some photos. The fall foliage was still holding on in the chilly wind this day.  Here is one I really loved from Amanda and Ian's wedding.

Jenna & Anthony | Getting Married at Pats Peak

Thinking of getting married at Pats Peak Wedding Venue in Henniker, New Hampshire? I would recommend  them as a great place for your wedding. Photojournalistic Wedding Photography

Whether it is a great black and white photo of the bride and groom having a sweet and private moment or that wide shot of the guests in the church from a low angle. I love this style of wedding photography and I am really looking forward to doing more of it. I have been reading more about the concept and the style really fits with my life.  For me it is more relaxed and real. It is about blending into the wedding party and getting the up close and personal shots as well as photos that make a true statement about a couples love for each other and their family and  guests. It is full of emotion and has an element of history behind it.

From the very first moment, to the last kiss goodbye, there is a feeling like no other that comes from a photojournalism-styled wedding project. Many color photos can be created in this style too. We all love those colors with the soft tones of the day or a slowly setting sun. Posing for a wedding like this is a craft all its own. When ones passion can be used to guide and create the vision of your wedding day, we know we will make something special. With my 50MM lens and some easy light techniques, you will all be amazed with the outcome. Are you getting married in 2014 or 2015? If you're still on the look out for a wedding photographer know that together we will create some magic memories in whatever style of photography you like.  Please contact me for my portrait rates. I will be more then happy to give you the time you deserve to make this the best day of your life! 603-367-4657 or you may email me to start some dialog joe@joemartinphotography.com

Berlin ~ New Hampshire Wedding ~ Ray & Brigid (real wedding)

This summer, I was fortunate enough to attended several weddings. This Berlin wedding was a fun one! The amazing St. Anne Church was one of the highlights of the the day. Built in the 1900's, it was a sight to behold. The priest was amazing, asking guests and family to please not take photos during the procession and enjoy the joining of these two families. As you can see from the photos, not one person had their iPad out, so I was able to do what I do and capture some great photography of the ceremony. Once the family and guests had left for the reception, I was able to re-enter the church with the bride and groom to create some of the bridal portraits. I am looking forward to sharing more from this amazing venue and to hear the reaction from the family and guests of the bride and groom.  If you are looking for a wedding photographer and are from New Hampshire or Maine, please contact me today to see if maybe we can work together to make your day as memorable as this one was.

It was a great day and always fun to see a young couple on the happiest day of their life.  2014

After arriving early we set up and do a few pre-wedding photos with the guys.  With the wedding ceremony about to begin, I took up a spot to get the bridal party as they came from the hotel and down onto the lawn. As Brendan waited, one by one, the girls walked solo with out a groomsmen to the alter.  The vows were written by the bride and groom as they read the vows. Tracy, the bride, was holding back tears the best she could, only letting a few pass by, but not enough to mess up her makeup.

Once the kiss had been shared and the party walked out in the final procession, we took time to create the family portraits and wedding party photos. As the families took turns posing the bridle party was sharing some appetizers set up on a special table so they did not miss out on the cocktail hour. I could tell that Tracy & Brendan were made for each other. They almost never left each others side the whole wedding and had that connection when they talked or shared a smile. Young and in love was the theme of the day.

All of the photos were coming out great as we raced the setting sun. In the fall, moving fast in the early evening is a must if you want great outdoor shots. We did well with our time and moved inside for the rest of the night. After the dance and cake cutting, we returned to the lakeside for a last few shots of the bride and groom in the gazebo on the docks.

This was my last wedding for 2014 and what a way to end the wedding season. The season is short for weddings in New Hampshire. With only so many weeksends in a year, make sure you contact me early  in your wedding planing if you want me as your wedding photographer. 2015 is underway and already booking up fast. Weddings at The Red Barn at Outlook Farm | Wedding Day in Southern Maine

If you follow my blog, then you know I like to build a slide show after the weddings that I shoot. I love to tell a story of my favorite photos from the special day. Here is a slide show from a wedding that I shot at The Red Barn at Outlook Farm, which is another beautiful Maine wedding venue. It is located in the town of South Berwick, Maine.  On the wedding day, the bride had been stuck in traffic on her way to the wedding and we ended up being a little behind for the start of the reception, so our time for bridal photos was a bit shorter then I would have liked. It was really just all in my head. We got every shot they wanted and still made time to create a few extras of just the bride and groom. So, please enjoy this slide show form Christina & Doug's May 1st Wedding.

If you are in search of a wedding photographer in Maine or New Hampshire. Please contact me to check on availability. I am booking 2016 weddings already. 2016

New Slide Show From New Hampshire Same Sex Wedding | Joe Martin Photography

Once the wedding is over and the guests have gone home, I get to work. I cull out the double images and delete the misfires. I sort through the good photos from the great ones. I find the best story- telling images of the day. Lastly, I find the perfect music and create a story of the wedding. For the couple, it is an emotional trip back in time, to the day in which their lives begin with this new chapter of life. Through the video that I create, the couple will be able to see so much that they may have missed from the wedding day. They get to experience what it was like to be a guest witnessing the joining of Love - indivisible.
Thanks again, to Lauren and Meg.. Cheers to you both and may your lives and love be forever entwined. I am honored to have been invited to capture your special day. I will never forget it.

Maine Wedding | Sneak Peek

This past weekend I was the second shooter at a coastal Maine wedding. It was at the beautiful family home and bed and breakfast. The Moorings B&B is a Midcoast Maine wedding venue located just 50 miles north of Portland, ME in the town of Georgetown. With its seaside setting and colonial feel. You know the property has been loved for many years and in fact has been in the Reid family since the early 1900's. Here is just a peek at a photo of the couple from this days wedding. Congratulations to Devon & Ben. Cheers to many happy years together. 2013

New Hampshire Wedding Photographer | Wedding at The Wentworth, Jackson, NH | New Hampshire Photo Blo

In the small town of Jackson, N.H., is a resort named, The Wentworth. It is a well known Inn in the area and is snug right in the middle of town. The Wentworth is a popular wedding venue in the Mount Washington Valley. The ceremony that I attended there was in a small field next to the venue. The Wentworth gazebo is set at the base of Jackson Falls, a popular tourist destination, and is a beautiful settling for a wedding. The guests were arriving and made their way to the site. The couple was dressed and ready to, say, "I do," and begin their celebration of their new life together. The parents, grandparents and other family members stayed at the site, after the wedding, for some photos. Then, the bridal party jumped in to a limousine so we could drive around and work on some photos at a few special places that they had in mind.

We first went to the famous, Jackson Covered Bridge. It is an old, wooden bridge that was build in 1876. It is also known as Honeymoon Bridge or Covered Bridge No. 51. On the way back to the hotel,we stopped at the in town pond to capture the couple in a reflection. As they came out of the bus, Mark, the groom, headed right over a couple that was already there that were fishing. He talked to them for a bit and then I saw them handing over their fishing gear to the bride and groom! I was surprised and impressed that he was so bold as to ask to borrow their gear for some photos. I love working with such confidence and creative couples. I was able to take a few shots of them fishing. the groom even hooked one! We stopped at the stone bridge and the Jackson Library for a few emotive photographs before heading to the reception. They danced, cut their cake and rocked out to the live band, Gazpacho. (They were a fabulous wedding band, and highly I recommend them.)

It was a beautiful day and a day full of laughter and love. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day. Thanks Jen & Mark for the great day! It was an honor to work with you to capture the joy and beauty of your day!

Bronwyn & Andrew's New Hampshire Wedding Slide Show | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers

Off all the DIY weddings I have photographed this was by far the one with the most involvement by family and friends.  The wedding was at the brides parents home in historic Chester, New Hampshire.  They set the big white tent up in the horse corral. What better why to have your wedding then with your childhood horse near by? We entered the tent by passing thought the bard and past the horses. The mother of the bride made the cake the cookies and so many small details that made this the DIY wedding of anyones dreams. With friends and family in attendance the wedding went off without a snag. Happy wedding day to all Bronwyn & Andrew. View the photo gallery here

Wedding At Belknap Mill - Laconia, NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

Venue| Belknap Mill
Town| Laconia, NH
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer | Joe Martin

With all the history in New Hampshire, it is hard to find a wedding venue that doesn't have a back-story or state legacy. There is some history in Laconia, N.H., Belknap Mill is a historic hosiery factor.y What better place to have your wedding? The venue is in a large brick building. After you get married outside at the gazebo next to the Winnipesaukee River, you can walk down the stone walkway to your guests and loving partner.

If you are get married in the spring, you will have the beautiful flowers on the budding tress. If your wedding is in the fall, you will have the color of the foliage all around you. Even though this venue appears to be in a busy part of tow, it is surprisingly quiet and intimate. There is many spaces to take photos with family and your wedding party on the grounds of the, Belknap Mill. The river the gazebo and a small private park are just a few spots that are adjacent to the brick building mill was housed in.

The Mill hosts the reception on the 3rd floor. The interior of the hall has many windows and its original industrial-style brick walls. The bride wanted to do a special photo for her parents at one point, so we went outside with a custom- made sign and created the photos she wanted. Here is just a few of the photos from this unique October wedding.

One of my favorite photos was the one here with this young child sitting on the dance floor with their stuffed animal. It was just a fleeting moment before her parents came out to dance with her, that I noticed and quickly snapped a photo. I was happy to be able to capture this moment. With seventeen weddings under my belt this past year, I've learned what to look for in the moments in between the major wedding moments. Sometimes, the little things become just as powerful and meaningful moments and bring such uniqueness to each wedding photography experience.  2016

Engagement Session at Wells Beach Maine | Sarah & Tom | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

On April 10th of 2016, I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding engagement session on the beach in Wells, Maine. The young couple is from Maine and me, being from New Hampshire, we decided to meet in the middle on the Maine coast. It is early spring in New England so we had hopped for a sunny and warm day. Luckily, we got both. I met Sarah and Tom at Wells Harbor but with high tide, we chose to head right to the beach. The beach was nearly empty with just a few others there. I shared what we would be doing before we met, on the phone and through email prior to meeting that day. I shared some tips for makeup, hair and clothes, reminding them that being comfortable in what they are wearing and being authentically themselves is important for the energy of the shoot itself.

We started off walking down the beach and I had them walk away from me to a point then turn and come back. It made for some great wide shots of them together as they held hands and spent a few minutes together. Once they had returned, I asked them if they wanted to head up the sand dunes. They spent some time together at the top there too and shared smiles and showed affection and anticipation of their special day, which I was hoping to capture. I then asked them to stand apart on the dunes. I always like to add a few of these artsy, "together, but separate individuals" style shots to a photo shoot also. They capture the energy of two lives becoming one and their individual journey as people.

After they posed facing me with no emotion, I asked them to face each other and walk towards each other. I love the resulting photos. On the way back to the cars, we headed up to the rock jetty for a few more poses before we ended their engagement session. I am looking forward to their wedding day at the end of this summer. I truly enjoy and highly recommend engagement shoots. When a couple is comfortable with their photographer before the wedding day, it makes for a beautiful and smooth experience once their big day arrives I am grateful for this experience with this special couple and I look forward to capturing their wedding day, with their vision and expectations as my focus, in addition to my personal style and passion for what I love to do

Southern New Hampshire Wedding Venue at Dell Lea Weddings & Events | New Hampshire Wedding Photograp

Wedding Venue: Dell Lea Weddings & Events
DJ: Ted Raasumaa at Best Time Ever Entertainment
Cake By: Jacques Pastries
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer: Joe Martin Photography

Today, I wanted to share about a young couple, a beautiful day and an amazing location. Here we go again! The wedding season in New Hampshire has official begun! This April day wedding brought me to the southern New Hampshire wedding venue at Dell Lea Weddings & Events in Chichester. The weather was perfect. The sun was warm and the air was cool. With a few clouds above this picturesque venue, the day was off to a great start.

As family and friends started to gather in the hall, the bride was in the suite upstairs, adding the final touches to her elegant look. The groom and his grooms man were helping to add the final touches to the photo booth and helping their children get ready for the wedding ceremony. The groomsmen lined up and the music for the ceremony began. The bridesmaids began to walk across the lawn. The officiant shared a few words about the couples back story. How they met and their work background was a big part of their story as a couple. After the rings were exchanged and they ended the ceremony with a kiss, the bride and groom turned towards their friends and family with big smiles and began the walk together. The rest of the day was a smooth and came off wonderfully.

I went right into shooting some family portraits, starting with the brides list of requested photos. We moved around the property. The stone walls the front lawn in the apple trees. The venue had a tool shed on the property and. I had the couple pose for a moody shot in front of it. I shot solo portraits of each member of the bridal party and their significant others. I took a few final group shots with the entire family, including both the bride and grooms family.

After the formal photos, everyone relaxed and the party was underway. There was dancing, eating and family connection. The dance floor was rocking most all night with the DJ dropping the latests hits mixed in with some old favorites. As a photographer on a wedding day that has no wedding planner I take the role as a partner with the couple the DJ and the venue, if they desire that from me.. This day was smooth and fun. I wish only the best for these two families that became one. I wanted to share a few of the wedding photos from this beautiful, New Hampshire wedding day. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Wedding at Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa

Venue: Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa
Photographer: Joe Martin Photography

The wedding I want to share with you today takes us to one of Mount Washington Valleys most northern resorts. I was at the New Hampshire wedding venue The Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa in Whitefield, New Hampshire. This grand hotel was built in 1865. Can you think of all the work that must have been put in to creating this landmark hotel? Starting out as nothing more then a large home, truly it was a small lodge and over the years transformed into the magnificent building we see today.

The resort is colored in a bright yellow. The sister resort to it’s larger neighbor, the Mount Washington hotel another wedding venue in New Hampshire.  Both spaces are truly grand. With the large lawns and gardens, they can host two weddings at the same time. They also have reception halls for multi-events. I was the second shooter at this wedding. It was a last minute booking and I heard from the man shooter only a few days before this wedding. I do not have getting ready photos of the bride for this reason.

On this day, I met with the groom, Stephen, in one of the great parlor rooms off the lobby, in the main building. They had some great chairs a great table and the best part was the large chess board. As I spent time chatting to the guys, they had help with their boutonnière’s and we took some photos in this great room. I posed them a bit. Asked them to do a selfie. They were truly playing chess for the table shot. They did not have time to finish, but word was that one of them had learned from some real pros or had taken some sort of chess class in school. We had our short shoot then made are way out side to the back garden area.

There is a cool pond, with a small bridge and little river flowing into the pond. The men walked to the front of the crowd of family and friends that were sitting ready for the bride to make her entrance. The bridesmaids made their way down and around the pond to the front side of the garden. The sun was bright and hot and the photos were coming so bright and popping. The ceremony including a solo from a family friend and a wedding sand ceremony. The blending of the Sand is a unique way to symbolize two lives becoming one. The bride and groom shared a kiss. The groom surprised every one with a nice dip. I knew he was going to do this so I was set on the side with a wide lens to make sure I could capture the whole dip. As a photographer if I had shot this from the center of the aisle, like i do with most kisses I would have taken the photo and most likely missed it as the dip is a wide move and the parents in the front row can block the heads of the bride and groom. make sure you know your couples plans.

If you are a couple looking for a photographer, make sure you share your ideas with them. Nothing would be worse then once your photos come back and your kiss is missing. The rest of the night was seamless. We headed out front for some bridal photos and set up for the family photos. The hotel made for a nice backdrop as well the grand view did for the bridal party photos. We returned later in the night for a few twilight photos.

The Crystal Ballroom was a truly grand room. One of the best venue rooms for a wedding I have seen in New Hampshire. The toasts were grand, the food was grand, the dancing was grand. It was truly elegant. At the end of the night, the bride and two of here bridesmaids made their way to the dance floor. They lip-sync/danced to the 90’s hit song “I Want You back” by N Sync. Ending the night with the twilight photos was great. We left the bride and groom to hang with their friends and family when our work was done. I made the trip back over Crawford Notch I was truly grateful to have been a this wedding.

New Hampshire Wedding at LaBelle Winery | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

When you think wine. Do you think New Hampshire? You might think wedding but your first thought will most definitely not be New Hampshire wine. Well you might want to. There is a winery in Amherst, NH. That with many other small winery's is bringing the craft of making wine to people near and far. New Hampshire has a short growing season. Using Honey, berries and even blend in a bit of Rhubarb to give it that local flavor. With long cold winters and short wet summers the wine season is not unlike the wedding season. Hoping for a few sunny days and cool nights.
This wedding was held at The Labelle Winery. Started in 2001 with an idea and a dream they have become an award winning southern New Hampshire winery. With events like weddings they have an amazing backdrop and venue amenities. Creating some great images is easy at this venue

Breakwater Inn & Spa Wedding | Maine Wedding Photography Blog

Date: May 14, 2016
Wedding Venue: Breakwater Inn & Spa
Town: Kennebunkport, Maine
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer: Joe Martin
DJ: Music On Wheels featuring Mike Pomp

Summers on the coast of Maine might just be the best location to spend a summer in all the world! I may be a little bias about this, where the coast line is only fifty miles from my home. It is a place we find ourselves and release what doesn't serve us anymore. Trips to the coast are deeply rooted in our family history and I know the magic that resides there. Family fun in the sun at one of the many beach locations, or a short trip to a small village town, like The Old Port in Portland or to Wells, Maine is a tradition for many New Englanders. We always make time for a little "beach therapy."

As the summer wedding season gears up and I am shooting a wedding or two every weekend, it is is really great when a wedding is in a coastal location. This wedding brought me to Kennebunkport, Maine and to The Breakwater Inn & Spa. Heather & Aaron had put a request out on one of the many wedding booking sites online, looking for a photographer. I sent them a quote and we exchanged an email or two. They liked my work and my price and they wanted to meet me before booking me. Once the meeting was over, they booked and here we find our selves at their wedding on the Kennebunk River!

With the day looking great, a light breeze and a gust here and there, the magical day started off perfectly! Part of the bride, Heather's, plan was that I be there before the wedding for a short photo session for her and her bridemaids on the Breakwater, which was just up the road from the Inn. It was windy, but we enjoyed this pre-wedding photo session. Her parents joined us and we made them part of the photo shoot as well.

Back at the Inn, Aaron and his groomsmen were about ready to begin the ceremony. One of the things I enjoy about weddings is that I get to hear some of the back story of the couples I am shooting. I try to get to know the couple as much as time allows before the wedding date. Most times we become friends on Facebook or follow one another on Instagram. Hearing the story of the couple is often times humorous and it is almost always a love at first sight.story. The more that I learn about them, the better I can interact with them at their wedding to capture the perfect moments through photography.

The wedding was on the side lawn of the Inn which is just a few feet from the seaside river. They held the reception in a beautiful outdoor tent. They treated their guests with a "make your own sundae" ice cream bar. Like most weddings, they kissed and danced and danced some more. It was an intimate, joyful gathering and I am honored to have been part of it!

Enjoy this gallery of wedding photos. Feel free to share this post with guests of the wedding! I am sure they would love to experience this beautiful wedding again, through photos.

Maine Wedding Photographer | Private DIY Wedding |

Freeport, Maine is one of those little towns with a big New England town feel. Having a wedding on the coast, just a few miles from downtown Freeport, is almost a world away. The couple had rented a home right on the water. There was the ocean, seagulls and a light breeze. The weather was great the air was crisp with a feel of early spring. What I am saying is, it is was a bit cold. The temperature was fine, actually, for the ceremony and much of the party afterwards. It was a bit too cold for the family to have dinner outside, however. So, they moved some tables into the over sized living area of this large vacation home and everyone ate inside.

The couple and the family had done a great job on this DIY/backyard wedding. They thought of everything. They had great food. They had planned out the music play-list and had enough sound equipment to play it so it sounded professional. At most weddings like this, the music is the last thing they plan on and most I have seen couples miss the mark when it comes to having loud enough music for dancing or even the ceremony itself. This couple nailed it and the sound was fabulous.

The couple liked that I created several artsy photos of their wedding. We made sure to take some time to create a few. I asked the couple to join my on the waters edge on the great rocks the earth had landscaped for us. I set up my lighting gear ahead of time and took a few test shots. I was dialed in to the exact look I wanted to create. I asked them to pose, to kiss and to just have fun. The bride was committed and focused and despite the cold, she never complained. We made some beautiful shots on the rocks on that cool, but beautiful day.

On the way back to the house. I had them stop and pose for a few more shots with them apart but together in the same frame. I am very happy with the way they all turned out. I am really looking forward to my next Maine coast wedding at the Nubble Lighthouse in early June 2016. My time at this wedding was amazing and I loved every minute!

Happy Wedding Day Jake and Laura! 2016

Alone In The Dark | Wedding at Castleton - Windham, NH | Photo Blog

Driving to the venue, I was listening to a pod-cast about photography. Imagine that! It was about a two hour drive through the New Hampshire mountains down to the southern part of the state. It was very cloudy when I left from my home. It never seemed to break and it only got worse as I got closer to the wedding venue. About an hour away, the sky opened up and the rain was pouring down. I knew the venue had a backup plan for rain, but let's face it, Plan "B" is never the best plan. As luck would have it, I was about 15 minutes from Castleton, and the rain just stopped. I had driven through the storm and out the other side. It was still very cloudy but not wet and not rain, so let's get married! The wedding went off without a hitch. The couple was happy to create some portraits together. After dinner and a bit of dancing, I had them join me outside for a few shots in the dark. Here is one I grabbed for quick edit and a little sneak peek.  june 13 2016

Boston Engagement Photo Shoot at The Boston Public Gardens

Last week I had an amazing photo shoot in Boston, MA. The couple was great. The weather was great. The shoot was great. We spent most of the time in The Boston Public Garden. The park was busy, but we found small areas of solitude to make some great images. Here area few. I shot more casual and in the moment. It was great and so much more fun then a posed shoot. We took some posed shots also but the couple was great and happy to just be together in the park. If you view my wedding pricing. You will see that most of my packages include a free engagement session. These sessions can take from 1-2 hours. These are a great way for use to get to know each other a little better and go over any question you will have about your wedding day and your photography coverage. Many engaged couples use these photos for their save the date wedding invitations. It is a great reminder to the time just before your life together truly is forever.

Last week I posted about a private wedding that took place in Jackson, NH. The couple, myself and the Justice of the Peace were the only attendees at this elopement. The couple had made a trip to The Wentworth a few times in the weeks prior. The bride had mapped out some great locations for photo shoots with just her and the groom. The limo was gassed up and I followed them around in my vehicle. We stopped maybe six times at various spots,. all of which were great. A barn, a old stone and a wooden fence were some of the backdrops. The view from The Eagle Mountain House was also a special stop for photos.

At one point, we drove past a field of yellow flowers with a grand view. I was hoping the limo would stop for photos at this location, but it did not. We did stop just past a the field to shoot some photos at a cool stone fence. Once were done at the fence, I asked if they wanted to head back to the field. They both said, "Yes, lets do it!" I had them walk to meet in the field. Then walk together across the field. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. The happy couple drove off in the limo and I drove home to my family. The perfect end to a perfect day. Enjoy some of the photo we made that day. If you are looking to create some wedding photos that are more then just family photo after the ceremony, contact me today. I would love to spend a few hours with you and create some images you are proud to hang on the wall.

Boston Wedding Photography | Road Trip to The BostonTemple | Wedding Photography Blog

The first look was at 4:45 PM. It was followed with a short bridal portrait shoot on the beach. I used some off camera flash to darken the sky and light the couple. I am happy with how the photos came out! (They are the first few in the series below.) We walked down the beach to the house they had rented for the wedding. They had a big white tent set up, music playing and you could hear laughter. We started on some family photos as the guests enjoyed the cocktail hour before the ceremony started. The couple and the family made their way to the beach to witness the wedding. The ceremony was performed by the grooms father. He did a great job. He made a few jokes and touched a few hearts. After the couple was pronounced, the family hugged and kissed the couple and we headed back up to the yard of the house to have the reception party. The couple wanted to go back to the beach to create some more photos. I was happy to do so. The last few photos in this set is what we created on the return trip to the beach. Kennebunkport, Maine, is a beautiful area with a long beach front that was more, or less, private. There isn't anywhere to park, unless you have a home there. This makes for a nice place to vacation or live. I have another wedding there later this year. I really hope it is on that same beach with another amazing couple. Thanks Kassie and Bill. I wish you many happy years ahead.

Wedding at Whitney’s Inn & Shovel Handle Pub | New Hampshire Wedding

Venue:  Whitney’s Inn & Shovel Handle Pub

They were getting married at The Whitney's Inn In Jackson, NH. With the skies showing us rain, sun and clouds. Again, love won. The bride was not worried and nothing could affect her happiness on this day. All was well. They pushed the wedding back thirty minutes to see if it would stay dry. It did, well mostly. It did rain for a bit during the outdoor ceremony. The site for the wedding is just across the street in a wooded area. The wedding guests take seats on long wooden benches. There is a stone fireplace at the front of the isle and that is the spot the "I do's" take place  Some folks toughed it out others used umbrellas to keep the rain at bay. It was perfect. We stayed under the cloudy skies and ran from the rain once or twice during the family photos. It was a fun time that made this part of the day a memorial one, for sure. We still made a few bridal photos at the end, before the skies really opened up and washed us inside. This was my first wedding at Whitney’s Inn  and The Shovel Handle Pub. It is a great space in a quaint old barn setting. Set up on three levels with dancing on the middle floor. If you are looking for a wedding venue in Jackson, NH The Whitney’s Inn is worth the visit. The owner at the Inn is a great guy ready to help in anyway to make your wedding day special. With the rain coming and going the staff of the Whitney’s Inn was so hands on and ready to help with the couples needs. They wanted until the last possible time to make the decision on the location of the ceremony.
The food was great and the venue was very clean and large enough to keep most of the guest on the dance floor all night. The guests and family loved to be together on that dance floor and the music played on into the night. I love Jackson, N.H! It is home to many great venues and backdrops for photos.

Why I Love The First Look Before The Wedding and Maybe You Will Too | Joe Martin Photography

I thought I would share my thoughts on whether a couple should discuss to have, or not to have, a "first look" at their wedding. With so much to plan and think about leading up to and on your wedding day, why would you want to add more to think about? Well, this one thing could be the stress relief you need. After all of the planning, calls, emails, meetings at the venue, going over the song list with your DJ and a possible shot list with the photographer,  you want to just let go of all the stress and have a fun day together, right? But wait, you have to spend half of the day apart. That seems a bit unfair, right? What if I told you that I have a way to get you an extra hour together?  Are you ready to know more about this magic I speak of? It is called the "first look," and it is a growing trend in wedding photography.  It can be a very special part of your day, creating a whole set of images you would normal not have.

The first look, is for me, a great way to see a side of a couple that few get to see. It is the first time that the couple sees the person they are about to marry, on their wedding day.  For me, the photos tell an important part of the day. It is also one of the best parts of many young couples wedding day.   I have been able to witness some truly amazing "first looks!"  From couples in tears, to having the biggest smiles I have ever seen, when a couple sees each other for the first time at the ceremony, there can be 100's of people present. It can be very stressful and can also mask the true reaction from the couple.

Where do you do a first look? Every venue has at lest one great spot to do a first look. You can have it in a garden, the court yard or even in the streets outside of a downtown venue. I have also done first looks in the hallways of hotels  and on the opposite sides of doors of the bridal suite. If the couple knows of a spot they saw on their visit to the venue, then great! If not, then I take it upon myself to find a place that has a nice backdrop, that will make the moment that tells a bit of the love story from your wedding day. Some couples and families may be more traditional and want to keep the first look for he ceremony and that is fine too. I just want the couples that I talk to, to know of this trend and to give them the option.  This will not take the place of the walk down the aisle, but will give an extra element of the day that many couples miss out on, if their photographer has not done the job of sharing every option about their day.

Benefits of the "first look":

  • Takes a lot of stress off of your meeting at the alter
  • Gives you something that not everyone has from their wedding day - that something extra
  • Create a special set of one-of-a-kind photo
  • Gives time to do the family portraits and some bridal party photos, freeing up time for the couple to enjoy their cocktail party
  • Getting a bit of time alone together , its your wedding you should be together.
  • Gives more time, after the ceremony, to be with your family and guests.

Below are some images from some, "first looks" moments that I have captured and a photo taken shortly after at the pre-wedding photo shoot.

Loon Mountain Wedding in Lincoln New Hampshire | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

I was looking through a few wedding that I photographed last year. I was inspired to share the photos from a wedding that I was honored to be part of at Loon Mountains wedding venue. The wedding at Loon Mountain was on, October, 1st. The bride and groom traveled from out of town, to the beautiful countryside of Lincoln, New Hampshire. Loon Mountain is well known for its skiing in the winter and it is becoming more and more known for the fun it offering in the summer as well! Many ski resorts are learning how to continue revenue for the summer with activities like Loon's, Aerial Forest Adventure Park.

Loon Mountain for a wedding is spectacular! They have a very picturesque ceremony space on the top of the mountain. With it's long wooden benches and a large deck for the ceremony to be carried out, this beautiful spot looks out over the valley and you can see for miles.

After a short ride up their gondola and a 5 minute walk and you are their. The DJ had music for the wedding and all the guest were seated and waiting for the couple to make their way. This day was cold and the wind was not helping. But once the bride was in view no one noticed the wind or the cold. The JP made a few jokes then pronounced them, "man and wife". Like most weddings, after the ceremony,we found a nice spot to take family and bridal party photos. They have a great spot for photos just around the other side of the top of the lift, that brings you to the top. There is a wooden walkway with a small deck area that is a lookout spot to view the other side of the valley that looks outwards, towards Lincoln. There is also a great little ski shack, at the top of the trail head, for photos.

Then there was talk of the caves. Caves, I asked? Then back to the ceremony spot to the entrance to the caves. We walked down some steps and around some large boulders for a few portraits with just the bride and the groom. Then we raced to the lift for the last gondola ride to the base for the reception.

The couple entered the reception space and the party was on. They had the first dance followed with a toast. The staff at Loon Mountain set up a great buffet for the family and guests to enjoy. The night went on as most weddings with music and lots of dancing. We were called out to the fire pit area to take some more family photos later in the night. I thought the cake was going to get messy with this couple but they played nice for the most part. Like all weddings when my time was up I asked the couple if they needed anything more from myself or my second photographer. The couple was happy and even gave us a parting tip. Tips are not expected at weddings, but they do happen a lot. When you do a great job it is nice to be recognized for it. If you area ski bum or just want a mountain top wedding. The wedding venue at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH might have what you are looking for.

Wedding at The Stone Mountain Arts Center | Brownfield, Maine Wedding Venue

Here is a wedding photography sideshow from a winter wedding, at The Stone Mountain Art Center, in Brownfield, Maine. This is the venue for you if you are into the big barn weddings. They have two barns for your wedding day. One is for your wedding ceremony and the dinner. The other is for the reception. Both barns at the Stone Mountain Art Center, are made up of post and beam construction. Both have enough space for your friends and family to enjoy your wedding from start to finish. Tucked in the woods in Brownfield Maine, there is nothing like it around maybe not anywhere. The wedding was on a cold February day after one of our well known Maine snow storms. We had a nice 10 inch snow fall the night before the wedding. The road crews had most of it cleaned up and open for travel before the wedding started. We did start about fifteen minutes later then scheduled to give friends and family extra time to get to the venue. The wedding was a "themed" wedding based on medieval times. The bride wore jewelry and a time period throw, over her wedding dress and the groom had a sword and knights tunic. We were able to spend a bit of time outside making some bridal portraits and the family photos. But the party was jumping in the big barn with dancing and partying through the night. A big thanks to the staff at The Stone Mountain Art Center for always being the best folks to work with. We had a sparkler exit and the bride and groom went off in to the night to start their honeymoon and life together. To view the gallery or purchase prints please see the full wedding here. Christine & Steve - Rye Beach, NH | Elopement

Weddings come in many sizes and locations. Today it was a small wedding on Rye Beach in New Hampshire. The wedding was going to be just the couple and their two friends. IN the end family and close friends come to show their support for the newlyweds.  The sky was turquoise blue with some wispy clouds all about.  Flowers were placed on the path to the beach. Friends use chalk to write a few words of encouragement. After a short wedding ceremony we took some photos of the family and friends. Then the couple and I took a bit of time to create some bridal portraits on the beach. The tide was out and there was a few puddles of water left. I was able to set the couple up and take a few photos of them in the reflection with the ocean in the background. The brack water made a nice contrast to the images. Even know this was short shoot. It was great to be involved and to be part of the couples wedding day.  If you have ever thought about getting married at the beach I think you should. If you are ever in need of a wedding photographer please let me know.  2017

This wedding photography slide show is from a 2017 summer wedding in New Hampshire that was held at a private wedding venue. The owners built the venue with plans to host weddings and events. After a few they made it more of a private personal venue. With post and beam barn and the mid century house on the property there was more then enough opportunities to create some great wedding images.  I built this slide show from some of the best story telling images mixed in with some of the many bridal portraits. Thanks for watching

Wedding at The Wentworth Inn - Jackson, NH | New Hampshire Wedding Venue

The sun was out then it rained. The sun returned and so did a rainbow or two. The day went perfect. The wedding ceremony was out side by the river. The day or hot but the air had a nice breeze and it helped keep the temperature down. The humidity build up over the day and like many summer nights here in Mount Washington Valley this was the perfect recipe for an evening thunder storm. The Jackson falls were part of the plan as we finished up the rain began. It rained hard for about thirty minutes. But then it happened. The rain cleared and not one but two rainbows popped out. We were able to make a few bridal portraits with them as out backdrop. This just added to the already amazing day that was captured. Here is a few of the images made this day.

When Your Couple Loves Weddings as Much as I Do | Wedding at Vista of Maine Vineyard & Cidery

I am not sure what more I could say about this couple. They were the best. Ok, that sounds like I liked the couple very much. More than all the other couples that I've had. I mean they were right up there as a top contender. They knew what the wanted had the time line nailed down. She had a beautiful dress and the venue was dreamy. Ok so that does sound a bit like all the other weddings I have done. With over 100 weddings behind me. I guess it would be hard to pick or even remember all the best ones. So let's just leave it at Josh & Ellie's wedding at Vista of Maine Vineyard & Cidery was one I will remember for a long time. It has been a busy few weeks since their wedding. I made some time to create the wedding day slide show and know get to share it with them and their family and friends. Please enjoy their day, let me know your thought and feelings after. If you are getting married in or around New Hampshire, maybe we should talk? I am booking into 2018 at this point. I would love to hear from you.

Essex Room Wedding Venue - Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

With the New England wedding season in full swing. I had the opportunity to go to a Massachusetts wedding venue I had not been to before. It is called the Essex Room in Essex, MA
Not only was the staff there amazing the venue was also. Nice white celling for bouncing some flash off. They have a great ceremony site right out front of the Essex Room with a great vista out the back for create a few hero shoots. We used the pretty garden space to take some family photos after the couple was married and to make some bridal photos, well because it is a garden.

Bri & Leigh found me online like most f the couples I have worked with. After a few emails we hopped on a short phone call and they were happy to book me for their wedding. We had never met in person but talked again two weeks prior to the wedding. Once we met I knew it would be a great day with two beautiful brides. The ceremony was hosted by a close friend and I would have to say he was one of the best officiants I have seen to date. A few short jokes and a story or two and the kiss was made. He sent the couple off with the announcement of the new joined couple. As the wedding guests went off to the cocktail hour I made short order of the family photos and sent the family off to enjoy the party.
This is when I do what every I can to make magic. To create the "hero" images. They will for sure (or I hope) will cherish for years to come.

Please make sure you sound is on when you view the wedding day slide show. If you cry I am sorry. But hey it is my job :)

If you are newly engaged and still looking for your wedding photographer.  Maybe we should talk?  Give me a call anytime. 603-662-2960 Or you can fill out the short questioner on the link above this post that says " Check Availability"

Please share and TAG anyone you see in the video or that was at the wedding.

Looking forward to your comments and emails. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to show your support to this amazing couple.
