Today’s wedding brings us to the quaint town of Freedom, New Hampshire, for a beautiful lakeside wedding at historic Camp Cody. Located on the shores of Lake Ossipee and just about 20 minutes south of North Conway, Camp Cody known online as Yoursummercampwedding.com is a unique New Hampshire wedding venue with everything from wooded paths and waterfront views to rustic camp buildings, yurts, and on-site accommodations for wedding guests.

As a New Hampshire wedding photographer, I love venues that give couples plenty of variety throughout the wedding day, and Camp Cody is definitely one of those places.

From our first meeting to their wedding-day embrace, I knew working with Vivi and Rob was going to be fun, relaxed, and easygoing. Their wedding had exactly the kind of atmosphere I love to photograph—natural moments, genuine emotion, beautiful surroundings, and plenty of time for the couple to simply enjoy being together.

The summer sun was hot, but being right on the lake kept the air feeling surprisingly refreshing. With the water, woods, and surrounding landscape, Camp Cody provided an incredible backdrop for their Freedom, NH wedding.

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is the first look.

A first look gives the bride and groom a private opportunity to see each other before the ceremony and spend a few quiet minutes together before the wedding day really gets going.

As a wedding photographer in New Hampshire, I always talk with my couples about first looks and explain why I love them, but I never pressure anyone into doing one. Some brides aren't familiar with the idea, and many grooms initially aren't sure they want to spend additional time taking photographs before the ceremony.

But once we talk about what a first look actually provides, most couples understand that it isn't really about taking more pictures.

It's about having a moment together.

After the ceremony begins, the wedding day can become a whirlwind of family, friends, hugs, introductions, photographs, dinner, dancing, and everything else that comes with a wedding. A first look allows the couple to step away from all of that for a few minutes and simply be themselves.

For Vivi and Rob, we found a quiet wooded area at Camp Cody that was perfect.

I asked Rob to wait and not turn around until Vivi was ready. As she approached him, I photographed all those little moments of anticipation—the soft words, the nervous laugh, and the excitement building just before he finally turned around.

The result was one of my favorite parts of their wedding story.

I included most, if not all, of their first-look photographs in this post because the setting was simply too good to leave out. The combination of the trees, natural light, and their genuine reactions created images that almost felt surreal.

There was nothing overly posed about it. It was simply Vivi and Rob enjoying a private moment together.

Instead of spending the entire day in one location, we can move naturally through the property and create photographs that look and feel different while still telling the story of the wedding day.
