Lake Ossipee Senior Portraits | Camp Calumet Photo Session | New Hampshire Photographers Blog

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog: 199

Traveling for things you want is a big part of life, for most people. Today, a mother and daughter drove four hours from Connecticut to to meet me in New Hampshire, to create senior portraits. Emma, the daughter, wanted to have her photos done in a very special place, from her childhood and teens years. She not only attended Camp Calumet, in Ossipee, New Hampshire, as a girl, but then returned as a teen to work at the camp as a lifeguard. Not only was the location a place filled with childhood memories, but it was also breathtakingly beautiful! There were had so many spots to shoot from. Ossipee lake with the mountains in the background. We had a forest full of colored leaves and an adorable wooden bridge with a dry river under it, to choose from for photos. She really wanted a photo on the lifeguard stand, where she worked and created so many memories.  As we made photo memories of this time in her life, I could tell that it was truly bittersweet for Emma and her mother. I felt honored to hold the space for such powerful emotions. I was hoping to not only capture the beauty of the area, but also capture the feelings of joy and nostalgia of the experience of her returning there. I loved Emma’s ideas and the props she brought, such as a beloved teddy bear from her childhood. She also brought some sheet music that she wanted in a photo with or laying sheet music on the grass to be photographed with. This photo shoot with Emma and her mother truly moved me. It was such a special place, because Emma felt so happy revisiting such a special place. The photo shoot, in itself, was a new and powerful memory for Emma and her mother. It was such an honor to capture this moment in time of growing up and moving forward and letting go. It was not only a photo shoot. It was a rite of passage and one that I will never forget facilitating for this beautiful family.

Here is a sneak peak of just a few photos from Emma’s day. Thank you, Emma and Jean. I hope the day was just as special for you as it was for me.
