Essex Room Wedding Venue – Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

Essex Room Wedding Venue – Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

With the New England wedding season in full swing. I had the opportunity to go to a Massachusetts wedding venue I had not been to before. It is called the Essex Room in Essex, MA
Not only was the staff there amazing the venue was also. Nice white celling for bouncing some flash off. They have a great ceremony site right out front of the Essex Room with a great vista out the back for create a few hero shoots. We used the pretty garden space to take some family photos after the couple was married and to make some bridal photos, well because it is a garden.

Essex room wedding venue

Bri & Leigh found me online like most f the couples I have worked with. After a few emails we hopped on a short phone call and they were happy to book me for their wedding. We had never met in person but talked again two weeks prior to the wedding. Once we met I knew it would be a great day with two beautiful brides. The ceremony was hosted by a close friend and I would have to say he was one of the best officiants I have seen to date. A few short jokes and a story or two and the kiss was made. He sent the couple off with the announcement of the new joined couple. As the wedding guests went off to the cocktail hour I made short order of the family photos and sent the family off to enjoy the party.
This is when I do what every I can to make magic. To create the “hero” images. They will for sure (or I hope) will cherish for years to come.

Private Wedding Venue in New Hampshire | New Hampshire Wedding Photography

This wedding photography slide show is from a 2017 summer wedding in New Hampshire that was held at a private wedding venue. The owners built the venue with plans to host weddings and events. After a few they made it more of a private personal venue. With post and beam barn and the mid century house on the property there was more then enough opportunities to create some great wedding images.  I built this slide show from some of the best story telling images mixed in with some of the many bridal portraits. Thanks for watching

Wedding at Hammond Castle in Gloucester, Massachusetts

Wedding at Hammond Castle in Gloucester, Massachusetts

From our first call, until the day of the wedding, I was so looking forward to it. The wedding venue was Hammond Castle in Gloucester, MA. Yes, a Castle. Pretty much every wedding photographers dream. The bride was a natural in front of the camera. We had an engagement session together in the summer before, in Boston. You can view some of the photos from it here. I have never been to Hammond Castle so I went very early to walk the grounds and look over the space we would be in this day. The more I walked and explored the more excited I was. I had my camera and check my framing on some doors and walls. To make sure the would fit in the frame. I then headed to the Castle Manor Inn for the getting ready part of the morning. What better place for a bride that is getting married in a castle? We had a good time setting up her dress and flowers for some photos. As the time for the ceremony came closer it was time to head to the venue. The harpist filled the grand hall with music as the family and guests found their chairs. The wedding started and the groom saw his bride for the first time all day. I always take a photo of the moment he sees her before turning to capture the bride on the way down the aisle. This day, like many others, was special. His face told me she was coming and when I turned she looked amazing. They were married in short order.

This wedding had a traditional tea ceremony following the ceremony. This was my first time being involved in this tradition. This is one reason to have great communication with your couples. She provided me with a short walk through of how it would look and what was important to them to have be photographed. It was special to be there as just close family were allowed to witness this ceremony. The venue did not disappoint for photos. Being that I really love a wide style of shooting taking in the grand space was a great fit with my gear and my vision of the day. We made use of the drawbridge and the arches that looked out over the ocean and also the back side of the castle and the stone steps down to the lawn area.

Using an off camera flash to light the couple and really make then stand out in the images is something I pride myself in. I have worked hard to learn this skill and hope you can tell when viewing my work. I put together this slide show of the wedding using the best story telling images from the day. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. If you have are having your wedding at the Hammond Castle please feel free to reach out and ask me any questions. I would love to be there for another one.

Harbor View at Jones Landing Wedding on Peaks Island, Maine | Getting Married in Maine

Last evening’s wedding at The Harbor View at Jones Landing on Peaks Island, Maine, was like a dance party, fused with rain, friends and celebration. The kids rocked out so hard that we almost missed the boat back to the mainland in Portland, Maine. The rain came near the end of the evening, but the wedding was not dampened by the weather. Our short beach photo shoot went on as planned, luckily. I returned home to our electricity being out, so I could not get the photos onto my computer until Sunday morning. Here is one shot from the beach. Myself and the couple had made the journey via golf cart and found it almost empty when we waked down the ramp. I love this photo of both the bride and groom together, individually in thought. I feel it represents their union as a couple, and at the same time honors them as individuals. The wind grabbing her vale, naturally becoming the focus of the photo. Thanks John and Joslin for including me on this most special of days. If you want to know more about this Maine wedding venue please see the post were I interview Robin Clark from the Harbor View at Jones Landing.  She answered all the frequently asked questions about the popular Maine wedding venue

I was honored to be part of another great wedding in New Hampshire as a photographer. I had to share a few of my favorite photos from the day at The Margate Resort in Laconia, NH,. With The Lakeside Pavilion and tented reception area, this wedding venue makes for a special destination for weddings in New Hampshire. The lake as the back drop is great for photos. The sunset was epic and the bride and groom were happy to take a walk to the waters edge for a short photo session. One thing I want to do at weddings is not only create amazing images for my couples, I want to make sure that their needs come first and foremost. If they want to take the time to create some sunsets portraits, I do my very best to do so quickly and efficiently, so that they are only away from their family and friends for as short of time as possible. We headed to the beach and dock area with the bridal party with the flower girls in tow. I will have more to post later. Be sure to check back for the slide show from this great wedding.

Boston Engagement Photo Shoot at The Boston Public Gardens

Last week I had an amazing photo shoot in Boston, MA. The couple was great. The weather was great. The shoot was great. We spent most of the time in The Boston Public Garden. The park was busy, but we found small areas of solitude to make some great images. Here area few. I shot more casual and in the moment. It was great and so much more fun then a posed shoot. We took some posed shots also but the couple was great and happy to just be together in the park. If you view my wedding pricing. You will see that most of my packages include a free engagement session. These sessions can take from 1-2 hours. These are a great way for use to get to know each other a little better and go over any question you will have about your wedding day and your photography coverage. Many engaged couples use these photos for their save the date wedding invitations. It is a great reminder to the time just before your life together truly is forever.

I posted one photo form this “Rainy Day Wedding” the other day. I wanted to share some more of this day with you. The wedding couple had decided to have a first look before the ceremony. It was a bit wet out side. I took a few minutes to find a location for the moment of the groom to see his bride. I found a nice spot with a door. The groom on one side the bride on the other. With the door half open the should hear each other they touched and held hands for a moment. Some of the family had gathered up the whole way in hopes of seeing this magic moment between the wedding couple. Every time I have been witness to a first look they are always so exciting and special. When booking a wedding with me you are sure to hear me ask if you would like a first look. Many people have never heard of this. A lot of couples want to do it or some version of this. I have had couples do something like the first look with out seeing each other. They will hide around a conner or a door. Some have exchanged letters. Some have met in a field or garden. The first look is always a special moment that will not soon be forgotten. Did you have a first look at your wedding? What did you think. Was it is one of the best parts of your day? Did you wish you had not done it after the fact? Please let me know your thoughts on the first look?

These wedding day slide shows. I am not sure if creating the images or this slide show is my favorite part of a wedding. After the human interaction and feeling of the day that is. Once the wedding day has passed the couple has each other and family. We as photographers have memories that were captured in images throughout the day. In short enough time we are off to a new wedding a new couple and a new feeling. The slide show is a great way to have the days feelings revised over and over. Please share with your family and friends that maybe did not make it to the wedding. Thanks again Jake & Lauren.

The planning was for months. The favors were handmade. The cake, the food and the dress were all set up months ahead of time. The plan was in motion. The couple had a wedding planner. They had the DJ and me, the photographer. I met with the couple at Dexter’s Inn at the wedding venue in Sunapee, N.H.. We walked the grounds and made a plan for the wedding day photos. We had planned the “First Look” in the field before the wedding. . We made great photos in between the rain showers. The bride, cool as the other side of the pillow. It was *her* day. Rain or not, she was there for *him* not the weather. It was a perfect day. Love was made.

Weddings at Pats Peak. I have done a few there. Great venue and staff. The couples love it for many reasons. The big one being that they love skiing or snowboarding. S, it is a way of bringing that winter fun to their wedding. The cake topper was a look-alike of the bride and groom (coming in a later post). One great thing about shooting the same venue multiple times is that, as a photographer, I know hto take them for nice looking bridal portraits. Like this couple (the Green Converse couple), they wanted to take the time to make a few wedding portraits before they went in for their cocktail party. I was happy too. As a photographer, the photos are important, but not as important as a happy couple is. Here is a couple of photos from this night at Pats Peak. Hope you enjoy! Please feel free to comment or share this post with your friends. Tell everyone that Pats Peak is a great place to have a wedding.

It was great to be witness to your vows and be part of your day. You both are lucky to know and have each other. Even in the little time I had with you this day. I could tell you are both genuine, kind people. I wanted to share a sneak peek with you. Here are two that jumped out at me one a quick pass over your wedding images.

Breakwater Inn & Spa Wedding | Maine Wedding Photography Blog

Breakwater Inn & Spa Wedding | Maine Wedding Photography Blog

Heather & Aaron
Date: May 14, 2016
Wedding Venue: Breakwater Inn & Spa
Town: Kennebunkport, Maine
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer: Joe Martin
DJ: Music On Wheels featuring Mike Pomp

Summers on the coast of Maine might just be the best location to spend a summer in all the world! I may be a little bias about this, where the coast line is only fifty miles from my home. It is a place we find ourselves and release what doesn’t serve us anymore. Trips to the coast are deeply rooted in our family history and I know the magic that resides there. Family fun in the sun at one of the many beach locations, or a short trip to a small village town, like The Old Port in Portland or to Wells, Maine is a tradition for many New Englanders. We always make time for a little “beach therapy.”

As the summer wedding season gears up and I am shooting a wedding or two every weekend, it is is really great when a wedding is in a coastal location. This wedding brought me to Kennebunkport, Maine and to The Breakwater Inn & Spa. Heather & Aaron had put a request out on one of the many wedding booking sites online, looking for a photographer. I sent them a quote and we exchanged an email or two. They liked my work and my price and they wanted to meet me before booking me. Once the meeting was over, they booked and here we find our selves at their wedding on the Kennebunk River!

With the day looking great, a light breeze and a gust here and there, the magical day started off perfectly! Part of the bride, Heather’s, plan was that I be there before the wedding for a short photo session for her and her bridemaids on the Breakwater, which was just up the road from the Inn. It was windy, but we enjoyed this pre-wedding photo session. Her parents joined us and we made them part of the photo shoot as well.

Back at the Inn, Aaron and his groomsmen were about ready to begin the ceremony. One of the things I enjoy about weddings is that I get to hear some of the back story of the couples I am shooting. I try to get to know the couple as much as time allows before the wedding date. Most times we become friends on Facebook or follow one another on Instagram. Hearing the story of the couple is often times humorous and it is almost always a love at first sight.story. The more that I learn about them, the better I can interact with them at their wedding to capture the perfect moments through photography.

The wedding was on the side lawn of the Inn which is just a few feet from the seaside river. They held the reception in a beautiful outdoor tent. They treated their guests with a “make your own sundae” ice cream bar. Like most weddings, they kissed and danced and danced some more. It was an intimate, joyful gathering and I am honored to have been part of it!

Enjoy this gallery of wedding photos. Feel free to share this post with guests of the wedding! I am sure they would love to experience this beautiful wedding again, through photos.

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Getting Ready Gallery | NH Wedding Photographer

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Getting Ready Gallery | NH Wedding Photographer

I thought I would share a small  photo gallery of some of the “getting ready” shots from past weddings. Most of the weddings were shot at local resorts or venues that offer a bridal suite or “getting ready” room. They are set up with mirrors and a bathroom. It is a great way for the wedding party to be together and to help the couple get ready. The level of stress grows as the wedding ceremony start time closes in. Most of the time there is a hair and makeup person in the mix. Sometimes there are guests at the wedding there also. They usually have more make up than any one person should own. Funny thing is, it seems that, for the most part, they only use a small percentage of it. The getting ready photo shoot is the time in which I take photos of the dress, shoes and any other details they bride or the bridal party might have. I have seen colorful sunglasses, matching purses and small gifts from rings to pearl bracelets. Here are a few of my favorite “getting ready” shots.  You should know that if I am your wedding photographer, I will make sure to capture this special and memorable part of your day. I will make sure to capture both the bridal and groom parties getting ready. From tuxes to dresses,  shoes to champagne toast, I will capture every moment.  I try to offer tips and wedding day feedback from time to time, if you are looking for that level of support. It can help a couple in small ways that they may not notice, until the day of the wedding and then they will tap into these little bits of knowledge that I provided. If you like my style and feel, we will work well together. If you are planing on getting married in 2016, contact me today! I have limited space left for Saturday weddings. If you are planing a wedding for 2017, I still have a few dates open, but I am starting to fill those up quickly, as well. Contact me via phone, 603-367-4657 or email. I look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions that you may have.

These images are from a two alarm fire at a small apartment building in North Conway, NH 03860. The building was on fire from in the attic. By the time I got there the crew had already cleared the building and were about to fight the blaze. The smoke was thick and black for about 30 mins then the fire busted through the roof. I would guess that the flames could be seen for no more then 5 mins before they were extinguished. 16 residents had to be relocated and the building is not boarded shut. This small “inn” turned apartment complex is a local landmark at the cross roads of a busy intersection.  All occupants are safe, but in need of housing. I was able to capture these images on the scene. Please contact Joe for any publication requests.

Off all the DIY weddings I have photographed this was by far the one with the most involvement by family and friends.  The wedding was at the brides parents home in historic Chester, New Hampshire.  They set the big white tent up in the horse corral. What better why to have your wedding then with your childhood horse near by? We entered the tent by passing thought the bard and past the horses. The mother of the bride made the cake the cookies and so many small details that made this the DIY wedding of anyones dreams. With friends and family in attendance the wedding went off without a snag. Happy wedding day to all Bronwyn & Andrew. View the photo gallery here

Why do I focus on wedding photography? What is not to love about being at 25+ weddings each summer. It is all about love. Family friends and couples together and in love. Sharing memories creating new ones. Who would not want to be part of this most happiest of days? I get to see this world from the inside and the outside. I get to be behind the scenes and right out in front of the crowd. Being a wedding photographer is not for the shy or introverted person. Sure most of the day we as photographers are quite in the wings hiding out in the shadows. Then there is the times when we need to capture the marriage ceremony, the first kiss. the parent dances and the cake cutting. Weddings are my joy.

In the small town of Jackson, N.H., is a resort named, The Wentworth. It is a well known Inn in the area and is snug right in the middle of town. The Wentworth is a popular wedding venue in the Mount Washington Valley. The ceremony that I attended there was in a small field next to the venue. The Wentworth gazebo is set at the base of Jackson Falls, a popular tourist destination, and is a beautiful settling for a wedding. The guests were arriving and made their way to the site. The couple was dressed and ready to, say, “I do,” and begin their celebration of their new life together. The parents, grandparents and other family members stayed at the site, after the wedding, for some photos. Then, the bridal party jumped in to a limousine so we could drive around and work on some photos at a few special places that they had in mind.

We first went to the famous, Jackson Covered Bridge. It is an old, wooden bridge that was build in 1876. It is also known as Honeymoon Bridge or Covered Bridge No. 51. On the way back to the hotel,we stopped at the in town pond to capture the couple in a reflection. As they came out of the bus, Mark, the groom, headed right over a couple that was already there that were fishing. He talked to them for a bit and then I saw them handing over their fishing gear to the bride and groom! I was surprised and impressed that he was so bold as to ask to borrow their gear for some photos. I love working with such confidence and creative couples. I was able to take a few shots of them fishing. the groom even hooked one! We stopped at the stone bridge and the Jackson Library for a few emotive photographs before heading to the reception. They danced, cut their cake and rocked out to the live band, Gazpacho. (They were a fabulous wedding band, and highly I recommend them.)

It was a beautiful day and a day full of laughter and love. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day. Thanks Jen & Mark for the great day! It was an honor to work with you to capture the joy and beauty of your day!

Wedding In Poland, Maine | Wolf Cove Inn Wedding Venue | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

Wedding In Poland, Maine | Wolf Cove Inn Wedding Venue | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog: 198

It was a beautiful warm day in Poland, Maine. (Yes! There is a Poland, Maine!) The couple was like most others. Young, in love and surrounded by family and friends. There was one thing about this couple that was different then most others. they had traveled over a thousand miles to say “I do.”. The couple had flown to Maine to have their wedding at this great Bed & Breakfast The Wolf Cove Inn.

Like most days, I packed up my gear and headed off early in the day. I had said goodbye to my loving family and traveled into Maine to meet another. Being that the couple was from Texas, they had a small, select group of family and friends with them on this special day. We were able to do a “first look” shoot. just before the wedding. I love doing these, as it makes the wedding time more relaxed by getting the nervousness of them seeing each other for the first time, out of the way. Part of my wedding photography style is creating photos that tell a story from the day, at the same time, creating a mood of being together – yet being separate people. I love to honor the wholeness of the union, as well as the wholeness of the individual. It makes my work stand out and takes partnership and equality to the next level, in comparison to a more “traditional” style wedding photography, which often times carries an energy of the woman being subservient, or frail. I love two show the bride and groom as equally powerful and ready to step into this new chapter in their lives.

Before a first look I try to create at lest one photo that is moody or something not tipical of most wedding photography. This time it was the boat house photo. The photo was taken just before the “first look” photos were taken. The couple could not see each other. I wanted to capture the energy of loving anticipation between them. I first had the groom take his place in the boat house. I then walked the bride out and down the stairs. I reminded him not to look over in her direction. He had a wall to his right so she was out of view. They could hear each other and talked a bit. I had to walk out on to the small boat dock to take the photo and capture this moment.

Most people do not realize the thought and creativity involved in the work of a professional wedding photographer. Vision, timing, confidence, great effort and extreme focus to detail is paramount. I intentionally capture the uniqueness of the each couple and instead of taking the “cookie-cutter” wedding photos, I promise the couple a uniqueness that will make their photos stand out and carry incredible emotion.

I love what I do and the couples that I work with are all special and I never forget the moment of fulfillment, when a photo like this, goes from conception of an idea to… art. I am grateful to the couples who are willing to trust me and work on a combined vision. It is always an honor and this Maine wedding was no exception.

One of the best parts about being a Wedding Photographer. I love building wedding day slide shows! It takes me back to the energy of each, individual wedding and it is so nice to live it all again. This is my goal when creating a slide show for the couples I work with. It isn’t just about the photos themselves. It is about the feeling, the energy, the uniqueness of each, individual couple and celebration. When you get marred in New Hampshire you have many options for a gorgeous background. This time I traveled to Lincoln, N.H. To Indian Head Resort. I have photographed here before at another wedding. We were able to create some great portraits after the wedding ceremony and then again near sunset we stepped out to the pond for a few more photos. One nice thing about the resort is that the venue is close to the beautiful scenes we used for backdrops. We did not need to jump in a car and drive 10 miles to find the mountains or a lake. They have it all right there. Mary, Justin and I had a great day at there wedding. Like the engagement session we had. It was like 3 friends taking photos. Glad to be there this day. Please enjoy this wedding slide show of some of my favorite story telling images from that day.
