Essex Room Wedding Venue – Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

Essex Room Wedding Venue – Bri & Leigh (sound on?)

With the New England wedding season in full swing. I had the opportunity to go to a Massachusetts wedding venue I had not been to before. It is called the Essex Room in Essex, MA
Not only was the staff there amazing the venue was also. Nice white celling for bouncing some flash off. They have a great ceremony site right out front of the Essex Room with a great vista out the back for create a few hero shoots. We used the pretty garden space to take some family photos after the couple was married and to make some bridal photos, well because it is a garden.

Bri & Leigh found me online like most f the couples I have worked with. After a few emails we hopped on a short phone call and they were happy to book me for their wedding. We had never met in person but talked again two weeks prior to the wedding. Once we met I knew it would be a great day with two beautiful brides. The ceremony was hosted by a close friend and I would have to say he was one of the best officiants I have seen to date. A few short jokes and a story or two and the kiss was made. He sent the couple off with the announcement of the new joined couple. As the wedding guests went off to the cocktail hour I made short order of the family photos and sent the family off to enjoy the party.
This is when I do what every I can to make magic. To create the “hero” images. They will for sure (or I hope) will cherish for years to come.

Private Wedding Venue in New Hampshire | New Hampshire Wedding Photography

This wedding photography slide show is from a 2017 summer wedding in New Hampshire that was held at a private wedding venue. The owners built the venue with plans to host weddings and events. After a few they made it more of a private personal venue. With post and beam barn and the mid century house on the property there was more then enough opportunities to create some great wedding images.  I built this slide show from some of the best story telling images mixed in with some of the many bridal portraits. Thanks for watching

Camp Cody Wedding – First Look: Vivi & Rob

Camp Cody Wedding – First Look: Vivi & Rob

From the first contact, to our hug goodbye on their wedding day, I knew working with Vivi & Rob would be a fun and easy going time. They had picked their venue at, Camp Cody, in Freedom, N.H.. A lake side wedding with accommodations for nearly all the guest right on site, the sun was bright and hot but the air was nice and light. I think it was do to the lake being so close by. The camp had plenty of space to get ready for the wedding, with no issues of them seeing each other before hand. Only they wanted to. They had wished to have a first look. A first look is when the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony. Just the two of them in a special moment coming together and sharing some time before the long day of family and guests begin. If I could talk every couple into a first look, I would. I know it is very personal and I would not ever push for it if the couple says, “no.” As a wedding photographer, I always ask questions about the day and their expectations, with my part of the day. I talk about the details of the wedding they want captured and I always ask if they are planing a first look. If they reply is a no, we are not. Then it goes no farther then that. If they are a bit up in the air, then I share my feelings of why I believe they are a good way to get this extra set of photos, that not everyone will have at their wedding. More often then not, many brides have not really heard of a first look or they had heard of it but not really put much thought into it. I never push them in one direction, but with some couples the bride wants to and the groom is not so sure. In fact what it comes down to it, the guys never want to take photos. So in truth, they just do not want more time in front of the camera. At this point I share my thoughts and give my input all the time working to be sympathetic to the needs of both the bride and groom. Most times after our chat the first look take place. I ask the couple for input on the location, as they have a bit more knowledge of the venue at this point. Other times it is part of my task to find the perfect spot. Something private, yet beautiful. Something with little detractions as to make the photos about the couple more than the location.  Well, Camp Cody did not disappoint. We found a nice quite spot in the woods to host the first look. I shared with Rob not to turn around until his bride-to-be Vivi, was ready and in place. As she approached from behind I took a few photos. These are the moments that make this event so extra special as they build up to the moment. Most brides say a little something to break the tension. It is most times followed with some nervous laughter and reply from the groom. I will let the following images tell the rest of the story. I will give you a hint – it was LOVE at first sight. If you like this post or my work or if you, yourself, have your wedding date selected. Please contact me and lets discus the details of your wedding. I look forward to hearing from you.

Christine & Steve – Rye Beach, NH | Elopement

Weddings come in many sizes and locations. Today it was a small wedding on Rye Beach in New Hampshire. The wedding was going to be just the couple and their two friends. IN the end family and close friends come to show their support for the newlyweds.  The sky was turquoise blue with some wispy clouds all about.  Flowers were placed on the path to the beach. Friends use chalk to write a few words of encouragement. After a short wedding ceremony we took some photos of the family and friends. Then the couple and I took a bit of time to create some bridal portraits on the beach. The tide was out and there was a few puddles of water left. I was able to set the couple up and take a few photos of them in the reflection with the ocean in the background. The brack water made a nice contrast to the images. Even know this was short shoot. It was great to be involved and to be part of the couples wedding day.  If you have ever thought about getting married at the beach I think you should. If you are ever in need of a wedding photographer please let me know.

The ground was snow covered the temperature was cold, but love was in the air. I had not met Ashly & Dylan before the wedding. Some couples I met with others I do not. I am open to both. It was a last minute booking so we did a phone call a few nights before to go over the wedding details and make sure I was on the same page with the couple. The wedding was inside do to the time of year. We did make a short trip outside to take some photo of the families and the a few with just the newly married couple. We took a golf cart that the venue had giving us and drove it to the small covered  bridge across the street from Evergreen Pavilion at Candia Woods. I walked off into the snow and asked the couple to poses together. After a few more shots we headed back to the venue for the reception. We took one more photo in front of the flag they have in the yard. Thanks again to Ashly & Dylan for including me in their wedding day.

Wedding at Tumbledown Farms | Wedding Venues in New Hampshire

Wedding at Tumbledown Farms | Wedding Venues in New Hampshire

Todays post brings us to the New Hampshire wedding venue, Tumbledown Farms in Brookfield.  When looking for a wedding venue there are many factors to consider. Location is a big factor. Tumbledown Farms sits right between the  White Mountains and The Lake Regions of New Hampshire.  The venue has plenty of parking and can accommodate up to 175 guests. When you have your wedding at  Tumbledown Farms you have the venue for the whole weekend. They only book one event per weekend so if you need time to set up and take down your wedding details you have from noon time Friday until noon time Sunday to use the barn.  They truly give you that DIY wedding if you want it. The barn is wedding ready but most couple like to add a personally touch. When you get married at Tumbledown Farms the ceremony is in a large field set with chairs with the most amazing backdrop of the New Hampshire mountains. There you may want to have your family photos done following your wedding. Your guests will be giving a ride back to the barn for cocktail hour on the farms tractor with their large wagon or they can make the 5 minute walk through the open fields and wooded path. Your guest will be treated to your selected appetizers as they await your return. The Farm is also a BOYB venue so you can let your guests have a good time without paying for every drink. Lets face it your wedding is a once in a life time event for you and your guests. You are then introduced and the reception/party will begin. The Farm does the catering for you. They have many offerings available. From prime rib and chicken to fresh salads and local grown vegetables. When considering the location to host your New Hampshire wedding. I would put Tumbledown Farms near the top of that list. For more information about Tumbledown Farms wedding venue please email [email protected] for additional information.

Harbor View at Jones Landing Wedding on Peaks Island, Maine | Getting Married in Maine

Harbor View at Jones Landing Wedding on Peaks Island, Maine | Getting Married in Maine

Last evening’s wedding at The Harbor View at Jones Landing on Peaks Island, Maine, was like a dance party, fused with rain, friends and celebration. The kids rocked out so hard that we almost missed the boat back to the mainland in Portland, Maine. The rain came near the end of the evening, but the wedding was not dampened by the weather. Our short beach photo shoot went on as planned, luckily. I returned home to our electricity being out, so I could not get the photos onto my computer until Sunday morning. Here is one shot from the beach. Myself and the couple had made the journey via golf cart and found it almost empty when we waked down the ramp. I love this photo of both the bride and groom together, individually in thought. I feel it represents their union as a couple, and at the same time honors them as individuals. The wind grabbing her vale, naturally becoming the focus of the photo. Thanks John and Joslin for including me on this most special of days. If you want to know more about this Maine wedding venue please see the post were I interview Robin Clark from the Harbor View at Jones Landing.  She answered all the frequently asked questions about the popular Maine wedding venue

I was honored to be part of another great wedding in New Hampshire as a photographer. I had to share a few of my favorite photos from the day at The Margate Resort in Laconia, NH,. With The Lakeside Pavilion and tented reception area, this wedding venue makes for a special destination for weddings in New Hampshire. The lake as the back drop is great for photos. The sunset was epic and the bride and groom were happy to take a walk to the waters edge for a short photo session. One thing I want to do at weddings is not only create amazing images for my couples, I want to make sure that their needs come first and foremost. If they want to take the time to create some sunsets portraits, I do my very best to do so quickly and efficiently, so that they are only away from their family and friends for as short of time as possible. We headed to the beach and dock area with the bridal party with the flower girls in tow. I will have more to post later. Be sure to check back for the slide show from this great wedding.

Boston Wedding Photography | Road Trip to The BostonTemple | Wedding Photography Blog

Boston Wedding Photography | Road Trip to The BostonTemple | Wedding Photography Blog

Part of being a wedding photographer from the White Mountains of New Hampshire is traveling distances to weddings.  It might be a hour or more to some of the bigger wedding venues. It may even mean that I have to drive to another state, which is sometimes do. I actually enjoy the drive, as I can mentally get ready for my important role of capturing the memories for the couple and family. Just last week, I had the pleasure of attending a wedding at the Mormon Temple in Boston, Massachusetts. It was almost a three hour drive.

The interesting aspect of the ceremony was that I never went inside the temple for the actual ceremony. I wasn’t allowed to enter the Temple because I wasn’t a church member. More than half of the attendees of this wedding did not witness the actual ceremony. This was a first for me as a wedding photographer, but I didn’t mind at all. I fully respect the reasoning behind it. Once the couple had exited the temple, my job began! The couple came out and I was there, capturing the moment. There was a video team there as well. One had the drone in the air. The other was filming on a DSLR camera. We worked well together, taking time to get the shots we needed and felt the couple would enjoy. We spent the next hour or so doing family photos. Then, we spent some time with just the couple at the temple. We moved around the grounds using the giant structure as a backdrop. The couple was happy to create some bridal portraits. We took a 2 hour break, then it was off to the reception!

The reception was held at the Courtyard Boston-Cambridge. They have a great room with large windows to let plenty of light in. To toasts were made the cake was cut they danced and they had fun. We took a few group photos. We said our goodbyes and went off into the night. I could not wait to get home to see the wedding photos I had and what I could do in the digital darkroom on my computer. I have a lot of favorites here in their set. Here are just a few of them.

What is a better way then to relive your wedding day then with a video slide show like the one here? It is set to emotional music. It has some of the best story telling images from your wedding day photography.  I find myself even returning to these slide shows to remember the day or recall a feeling that was created on that day. I enjoy making them as a final part to the wedding day. It is a final thank you to the couple and their family for having me at the wedding day.

I posted one photo form this “Rainy Day Wedding” the other day. I wanted to share some more of this day with you. The wedding couple had decided to have a first look before the ceremony. It was a bit wet out side. I took a few minutes to find a location for the moment of the groom to see his bride. I found a nice spot with a door. The groom on one side the bride on the other. With the door half open the should hear each other they touched and held hands for a moment. Some of the family had gathered up the whole way in hopes of seeing this magic moment between the wedding couple. Every time I have been witness to a first look they are always so exciting and special. When booking a wedding with me you are sure to hear me ask if you would like a first look. Many people have never heard of this. A lot of couples want to do it or some version of this. I have had couples do something like the first look with out seeing each other. They will hide around a conner or a door. Some have exchanged letters. Some have met in a field or garden. The first look is always a special moment that will not soon be forgotten. Did you have a first look at your wedding? What did you think. Was it is one of the best parts of your day? Did you wish you had not done it after the fact? Please let me know your thoughts on the first look?

Killer Shoes, Why Do It? | Wedding Photography Blog

Killer Shoes, Why Do It? | Wedding Photography Blog

“A shoe is not only a design, but it’s a part of your body language, the way you walk. The way you’re going to move is quite dictated by your shoes.” ~ Christian Louboutin

They always have these shoes, these shoes no one should have to wear. The shoes kill their feet.  Most young woman do not walk around in 4 inch heals all day, so why on the wedding day do they do it to themselves? Not this day, this day it was no heal, soft and green. Both bride and groom were rockin’ green Converse. His were high tops, hers the low. Moving around was a breeze. Walking on grass? No issues. We made a fast time of our  bridal portraits. She was able to dance the night away in here sneakers, sorry her Converse wedding-ware. It was one of the best ways they could make this day easy. They were a great couple. They had their bulldog as the ring barrier. What more could you want?

Engagement Session at Wells Beach Maine | Sarah & Tom | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

Engagement Session at Wells Beach Maine | Sarah & Tom | New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog

On April 10th of 2016, I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding engagement session on the beach in Wells, Maine. The young couple is from Maine and me, being from New Hampshire, we decided to meet in the middle on the Maine coast. It is early spring in New England so we had hopped for a sunny and warm day. Luckily, we got both. I met Sarah and Tom at Wells Harbor but with high tide, we chose to head right to the beach. The beach was nearly empty with just a few others there. I shared what we would be doing before we met, on the phone and through email prior to meeting that day. I shared some tips for makeup, hair and clothes, reminding them that being comfortable in what they are wearing and being authentically themselves is important for the energy of the shoot itself.

We started off walking down the beach and I had them walk away from me to a point then turn and come back. It made for some great wide shots of them together as they held hands and spent a few minutes together. Once they had returned, I asked them if they wanted to head up the sand dunes. They spent some time together at the top there too and shared smiles and showed affection and anticipation of their special day, which I was hoping to capture. I then asked them to stand apart on the dunes. I always like to add a few of these artsy, “together, but separate individuals” style shots to a photo shoot also. They capture the energy of two lives becoming one and their individual journey as people.

After they posed facing me with no emotion, I asked them to face each other and walk towards each other. I love the resulting photos. On the way back to the cars, we headed up to the rock jetty for a few more poses before we ended their engagement session. I am looking forward to their wedding day at the end of this summer. I truly enjoy and highly recommend engagement shoots. When a couple is comfortable with their photographer before the wedding day, it makes for a beautiful and smooth experience once their big day arrives I am grateful for this experience with this special couple and I look forward to capturing their wedding day, with their vision and expectations as my focus, in addition to my personal style and passion for what I love to do

Wedding At Belknap Mill – Laconia, NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

Wedding At Belknap Mill – Laconia, NH | New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

Venue| Belknap Mill
Town| Laconia, NH
New Hampshire Wedding Photographer | Joe Martin

With all the history in New Hampshire, it is hard to find a wedding venue that doesn’t have a back-story or state legacy. There is some history in Laconia, N.H., Belknap Mill is a historic hosiery factor.y What better place to have your wedding? The venue is in a large brick building. After you get married outside at the gazebo next to the Winnipesaukee River, you can walk down the stone walkway to your guests and loving partner.

If you are get married in the spring, you will have the beautiful flowers on the budding tress. If your wedding is in the fall, you will have the color of the foliage all around you. Even though this venue appears to be in a busy part of tow, it is surprisingly quiet and intimate. There is many spaces to take photos with family and your wedding party on the grounds of the, Belknap Mill. The river the gazebo and a small private park are just a few spots that are adjacent to the brick building mill was housed in.

The Mill hosts the reception on the 3rd floor. The interior of the hall has many windows and its original industrial-style brick walls. The bride wanted to do a special photo for her parents at one point, so we went outside with a custom- made sign and created the photos she wanted. Here is just a few of the photos from this unique October wedding.

One of my favorite photos was the one here with this young child sitting on the dance floor with their stuffed animal. It was just a fleeting moment before her parents came out to dance with her, that I noticed and quickly snapped a photo. I was happy to be able to capture this moment. With seventeen weddings under my belt this past year, I’ve learned what to look for in the moments in between the major wedding moments. Sometimes, the little things become just as powerful and meaningful moments and bring such uniqueness to each wedding photography experience.
I am almost totally booked for Saturdays this year (2016). I have started to take bookings for 2017. Do not wait to contact me today to reserve your date. Just $100 deposit will secure your special day. Also, if you book your wedding before May 31st, 2016, I will add one hour of photography at no extra charge. Give me a call anytime. 603-367-4657.

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Getting Ready Gallery | NH Wedding Photographer

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Getting Ready Gallery | NH Wedding Photographer

I thought I would share a small  photo gallery of some of the “getting ready” shots from past weddings. Most of the weddings were shot at local resorts or venues that offer a bridal suite or “getting ready” room. They are set up with mirrors and a bathroom. It is a great way for the wedding party to be together and to help the couple get ready. The level of stress grows as the wedding ceremony start time closes in. Most of the time there is a hair and makeup person in the mix. Sometimes there are guests at the wedding there also. They usually have more make up than any one person should own. Funny thing is, it seems that, for the most part, they only use a small percentage of it. The getting ready photo shoot is the time in which I take photos of the dress, shoes and any other details they bride or the bridal party might have. I have seen colorful sunglasses, matching purses and small gifts from rings to pearl bracelets. Here are a few of my favorite “getting ready” shots.  You should know that if I am your wedding photographer, I will make sure to capture this special and memorable part of your day. I will make sure to capture both the bridal and groom parties getting ready. From tuxes to dresses,  shoes to champagne toast, I will capture every moment.  I try to offer tips and wedding day feedback from time to time, if you are looking for that level of support. It can help a couple in small ways that they may not notice, until the day of the wedding and then they will tap into these little bits of knowledge that I provided. If you like my style and feel, we will work well together. If you are planing on getting married in 2016, contact me today! I have limited space left for Saturday weddings. If you are planing a wedding for 2017, I still have a few dates open, but I am starting to fill those up quickly, as well. Contact me via phone, 603-367-4657 or email. I look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions that you may have.

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog: 218

I started off this 2016 wedding season early. This was a last minute booking with a call on Friday and the wedding on that following Monday. It was a Leap Day wedding here in Manchester, New Hampshire. This young couple was married at city hall. They had a small group of friends and family in attendance. What a great way to get personal with all the guests. We had a great time together. Everyone got to take part in seeing the first look. Once I heard they were going to being seeing each other for the first time that day at the signing of the paperwork. I knew we had to set up a spot to have them have a first look. Manchester City Hall has a great private stairwell. I had the groom Allan stand with his back to his beautiful bride. She approached from the lower level and then he turned to see her there in her amazing wedding dress. Yes, they both had a few tears. After the short ceremony, we heading outside to create some artful bridal portraits. This is always one of my favorite parts of the day. They liked my style and let me direct them into many poses giving them a wide variety of photos in the end. Here are a few of my best picks from their wedding day photography.

New Hampshire Wedding Photographers Blog: 216

In the small town of Jackson, N.H., is a resort named, The Wentworth. It is a well known Inn in the area and is snug right in the middle of town. The Wentworth is a popular wedding venue in the Mount Washington Valley. The ceremony that I attended there was in a small field next to the venue. The Wentworth gazebo is set at the base of Jackson Falls, a popular tourist destination, and is a beautiful settling for a wedding. The guests were arriving and made their way to the site. The couple was dressed and ready to, say, “I do,” and begin their celebration of their new life together. The parents, grandparents and other family members stayed at the site, after the wedding, for some photos. Then, the bridal party jumped in to a limousine so we could drive around and work on some photos at a few special places that they had in mind.

We first went to the famous, Jackson Covered Bridge. It is an old, wooden bridge that was build in 1876. It is also known as Honeymoon Bridge or Covered Bridge No. 51. On the way back to the hotel,we stopped at the in town pond to capture the couple in a reflection. As they came out of the bus, Mark, the groom, headed right over a couple that was already there that were fishing. He talked to them for a bit and then I saw them handing over their fishing gear to the bride and groom! I was surprised and impressed that he was so bold as to ask to borrow their gear for some photos. I love working with such confidence and creative couples. I was able to take a few shots of them fishing. the groom even hooked one! We stopped at the stone bridge and the Jackson Library for a few emotive photographs before heading to the reception. They danced, cut their cake and rocked out to the live band, Gazpacho. (They were a fabulous wedding band, and highly I recommend them.)

It was a beautiful day and a day full of laughter and love. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day. Thanks Jen & Mark for the great day! It was an honor to work with you to capture the joy and beauty of your day!

My wedding photography experience:
I have been shooting weddings for the last three years. In 2015, I shot seventeen weddings, and every year my business grows. I love my work and to create the story of a clients special day in pictures, is my passion. I not only want you to get every memory in my images, but I want to capture the energy of the wedding and the powerful love between the couple. I use my extensive knowledge of lighting to create dynamic images, perfect for albums or hanging in your home. In fact, if you book with me through this Virtual Bridal Show Booth, you will receive a 20’x30′ canvas wall print of your choice! (This wall print is a $300 value.)
