New Hampshire Wedding Photo Slide Show | Berlin New Hampshire Wedding

New Hampshire Wedding Photo Slide Show | Berlin New Hampshire Wedding

As part of my wedding packages, I have a social media add on.  It is one of the best features is the photo slideshow that I put together after the wedding. It contains 100-150 of what I feel are the best story-telling images. I make sure to add photos from the days timeline from the bridal preparation, to the last dance of the night.  I will pick a few of my favorite shots of the family and bridal portrait session we made during the day. This slide show is from a wedding this month in Berlin, NH. It is truly a pleasure to be witness to the happiest day of not only the bride and grooms life, but also a happy day for the family and guests that have come to be with the couple for the special event.  I feel it is my duty to not just be the photographer on this day, but to be the story teller and also capture the whole days event. This means being on my toes and ready to move to another room or adjust my equipment to capture a different angle of a special  moment.   Congratulations to the couple the family and all their friends!

Please enjoy this wedding slide show turn the speakers up, it is ok to get emotional.

If you know some one in this slide show or someone that is looking for a wedding photographer please forward the link to this page to them. Feel free to share on your social media outlets and thanks for stopping by.

This summer, I was fortunate enough to attended several weddings. This Berlin wedding was a fun one! The amazing St. Anne Church was one of the highlights of the the day. Built in the 1900’s, it was a sight to behold. The priest was amazing, asking guests and family to please not take photos during the procession and enjoy the joining of these two families. As you can see from the photos, not one person had their iPad out, so I was able to do what I do and capture some great photography of the ceremony. Once the family and guests had left for the reception, I was able to re-enter the church with the bride and groom to create some of the bridal portraits. I am looking forward to sharing more from this amazing venue and to hear the reaction from the family and guests of the bride and groom.  If you are looking for a wedding photographer and are from New Hampshire or Maine, please contact me today to see if maybe we can work together to make your day as memorable as this one was.

Ben & Mae Southern ~ New Hampshire ~ Engagement Photos.

I have the pleasure of witnessing a beautiful young couple getting married this month. With that wedding date approaching  it was time to set up their engagement photos.  I headed down to Laconia, NH to meet the couple view the wedding location and to get to know them a bit more. We drove around a bit and stopped at some scouted locations to pose for some shots. We made are way to the train museum Meredith. This way their wedding day will be packed with fun and joy and no surprises. Love to meet and be with a happy couple just days before the wedding. They are bubbling with love and just a bit of stress, but the photo shoot is a way to get them to relax and let us connect as a team.   Here is just a few from last weeks shoot.

Looking forward to meeting your friends and family at your September wedding.

Social Media Slide Show from a Southern New Hampshire Wedding.

Social Media Slide Show from a Southern New Hampshire Wedding.

This year, I have been a second shooter for a few photographers. When you have two photographers, you get all the extra shots you might miss with only one.  This slide show is from a wedding that I photographed with another New Hampshire wedding photographer, called Exposes the Moment.  All the photos in this slide show I shot and edited to create a storyboard of the day. The first part of the day I was with the groomsmen, and that is why there are not many photos from the bride getting ready. I was able to take a few photos of her when I photographed the rings. If you notice, near the start at about the 21 second mark, there is a photo of the bride putting on her lipstick, with her dads reflection in the background.

There is 141 one photos in this video, even though I took many more I used what I felt the was a good amount to show a story of the day. One of my favorite photos in this slide show is near the end at the 3:31 time stamp, during the father daughter dance. The time of the wedding when the bride dances with her daddy. As she danced I noticed that her niece (the flower girl) was sitting in her own fathers lap and had her head resting on his shoulder. He is in the military and will be heading over seas again soon. She was sad to be reminded of his departing. Even with all the great shots form the wedding like the chair lift or on top of Pats Peak even the sunset photo with the bride and groom, this is the one I just loved capturing. The two fathers and daughters in a special  moment.  I have added that photo lower in the post.

Congratulations to the bride and groom, with many more years to come. This is the same type of slide show that is offered with my “Platinum wedding package and that  is included as a add on in my social media package.

Please contact me today to save the date for your 2015 wedding. PLease comment below if you like my work or share this post with a soon to be bride in the New Hampshire area. Thanks so much

Southern New Hampshire Summer Wedding ~ Tom & Emily

Southern New Hampshire Summer Wedding ~ Tom & Emily

I had the pleasure of being a second-shooter at beautiful early summer wedding yesterday.  The wedding was held at the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston, in the town of Contoocook, just outside of Concord, New Hampshire . I wanted to share a few of my favorite photos from the day with you. It was great to be a second shooter for a wedding. Second-shooters have less stress, shorter days and still enjoy the excitement of the event itself. I take any wedding job as a very special and serious procedure. I use the word “procedure” as it is so much more then a simple photo session. Things can happen in the blink of an eye that you have to capture. Taking so many photos, knowing you’ve got plenty of gold, but really hoping to get that shot that will stay in my portfolio for years to come and at the same time make a portrait the clients will love.
This was a great day and not only did I get to enjoy someone’s happiest day. I met a great photographer. Even though I am in New Hampshire and the wedding was in New Hampshire, Autumn Wells of  Autumn Bliss Photography is a Sanford, Maine based wedding and portrait photographer.  Her laid back, easy going energy fit nicely with mine and I hope to work together again some day.

If you like my work and are getting married or know someone that is, please consider working with me as your wedding photographer. I would be happy to talk to you and help answer any questions you may have about your wedding day.  Call me today Tap To Call 603-367-4657 or you can drop me a email to get the conversation started.

As I was going over the photos I had taken I found these few that spoke to me. I gave them a quick edit and here they are.

Poker Face – Self Portrait Project

When the mood strikes me I take some time to create self portraits. The great thing about having some strobes is that I can shoot even in the dead of night. This past yea,r I have set up my lights and backdrops a few times and created this emotional series of self portraits. With just a subtle change of the lights, turning them up or rising them higher, I completely change my look. Not only does it give me some more time shooting, it gives me insight to know a bit more about what it is like to be in a photo shoot.  I get to play with my poses and faces, seeing how the light and shadows play on the shape of the face from the small changes I have made with the lights or pose.

Weathered - Self Portrait Project

Weathered – Self Portrait Project

I use a software program called Light Room for the editing in almost all of my photography. It is made by the same folks that make Photoshop, but it is a very different program and can achieve great edits and dynamite changes to the images.  I had recent cut my hair so I wanted to create some new head shots for my websites.  I also thought I would play a bit and toss on my old army jacket grab an old firearm and toss my hat on for a few grungy looks.  Doing these self portraits can be a great way to learn about light, camera angles and self.  As I sit in on the stool, I play the model, making slight adjustments and changes as I go. I try to change my face my arms and my mood.  I do not set out with a vision for what I will capture. I just know it will be worth the time taken to set up and break down the gear. It is amazing the amount of thought that passes though your mind in the ten seconds it takes for the timer to go off and take each photo.  Once I had the images I could not wait to get them into my computer because I know that is when the creation process really begins.

I used a lot of dark tones to create a feeling of life and of death in each of my images. I turn most of them into black and white images, something I do not normally do. I really worked in bringing the details in the eyes to the center of each one. I wanted the viewer to see into my soul, past the art and into my reality. If you are looking to create a series of “Emotional Portraits” like these for yourself contact me today.  Session fees for this type of session start at just $125.00 and take about one hour.

New Hampshire Newborn Photographers ~ Introducing Annamay!

New Hampshire Newborn Photographers ~ Introducing Annamay!

newborn photographer posted a photo

Newborn baby in a basket in this photograph

My wife, Dayna and I had another Newborn Sparkle Session today with this little lady, Annamay! She was such a sweet baby. One thing we have learned is that newborn photography takes great patience. Newborns need to eat often. Annamay was having a hard time staying asleep, so we started and stopped a dozen times during our four hours together. We believe strongly that the baby’s needs come first and foremost, so we are willing to wait until the newborns are content and relaxed before we start a new scene during the session. There is so much to keep track of during a newborn session. Safety, heat, white noise and music, costume changes, background changes and all of the little details are a lot to focus on at once. We are learning together and my wife and I make a great team! We are happy with the newborn photography that we have created together and look forward to getting better and better at our combined creative vision.

How This New Hampshire Photographer Killed the Snow~Killing The Snow Funk~

How This New Hampshire Photographer Killed the Snow~Killing The Snow Funk~

Photo of snow covered tress

Snow covered trees in New Hampshire

What can we do? You can not stop the snow. You can try and keep the shades closed, but at some point you have to go out. You can push it around the yard and toss sand on it, but there really is not much that you can do about the snow. So, this North Conway New Hampshire photographer took it upon him self to kill the snow. Ok, it did not die but I sure shot at it as much as I could. I loaded the camera with fresh batteries and a flash card. I wiped the lens clean, put on my gloves and headed out the door. It did not matter if I was going after an epic landscape or the tiny snow flake. I had to shoot something.
Many new England photographers are just waiting for the snow to go away and the warm days of spring to show up. We need to book up our days with portrait sessions and our weekends with family and wedding photography. It is why will live. It is a our duty to create art work of the people we meet.  So, to pass this time we do what we can to market ourselves and save our strength for the short yet busy season that is about to start.

If you know anyone that needs a family, senior or wedding photographer, please pass my site on to them. It would be a great organic way to share my name and work with your local New Hampshire family and friends. Thanks so much for the support. If you have a question or comment please contact me today and we can create some unique, quality photography together.

I Ain’t Got Time For That. One New Hampshire Photographers View on the New domain Extensions

I Ain’t Got Time For That. One New Hampshire Photographers View on the New domain Extensions

Old building on a farm in New Hampshire

Old building on a farm in New Hampshire

Even in the small, rural state of New Hampshire we have access to all of the great technology that is available to the rest of the world.  We, as people, have to always be paying attention to an ever changing world even at the  speed that it changes.  Early in 2014, the authorities at ICANN started releasing new domain extensions. Some that have come out at the time of this posting are: .bike, .builders, .cab, .camera and .cloths,  just to name a few. There was one more, that as a wedding photographer, peaked my interest: the .photography extensions. Why would they do this? Are we running out of .com’s or has the internet become so overcrowded with business pages with names that is creates confusion? From what I read on many sites,  is that the new extensions give more options.  Will this add to the confusion and make it harder to remember the new extensions? Maybe so, at first. Soon, it will be commonplace and normal to have many extensions to choose from.

As a North Conway New Hampshire photographer that lives in a small town with a  market that is becoming over-crowed, I feel that anything you can do to get a little edge on others in the same field is maybe the only way to stand out and be seen.  Because of this, I have bought a few of the new “.photography” extensions. Why? Well, for one, we don’t really know yet if they will be a good thing or a bad thing or a great thing to the early adapters of these new extensions. I was not going to wait until all the names that I might want had been bought by others. I am not sure how they can help yet, but did not want anyone else to have them to gain a footing up on what I have here at Joe Martin Photography.

The names that I have as of this writing are as follows:

joemartin.photography

 newhampshirewedding.photography  (New Hampshire Wedding Photography)

newhampshireseniorportrait.photography  (New Hampshire Senior Portrait Photography)

newhampshireportrait.photography   (New Hampshire Portrait Photography)

portlandmaineseniorportraits.photography (Portland Maine Senior Portraits)
I had to make sure  I made time for this. Maybe you want to look at your city or state for the businesses you own to see if the extension is out yet or still available. If you have a question or comment feel free to leave them here or contact me today.

Thanks for stopping by and talk to you later.

Joe

Looking for a Wedding Cake in North Conway New Hampshire?

Looking for a Wedding Cake in North Conway New Hampshire?

Photograph Of North Conway NH
Photograph Of North Conway NH

I was out in North Conway to do some shopping and a little networking for my photography. I was looking to find the owners of the White Mountain Cupcakery. I was hoping to talk to them about their wedding cakes and see if I could offer some ideas or offer to shoot some photos or video of them working on the amazing wedding cakes they offer.  I mean, what is better than a cupcake? Not much really. It is a whole cake in the palm of your hand. You can eat like three whole cakes and not feel bad about it!.  After I went by both of their locations in North Conway, I found out that that the owners had the day off and I should come back again in the middle of the week. Too bad. I have to go back and try another cupcake.  This is such a hard job.

I was able to grab this photo in the village of North Conway, N.H., along with the ski resort of Mt. Cranmore, the first place that I ever skied as a youth.

Free Photo Shoots: What’s My Motivation?

Free Photo Shoots: What’s My Motivation?

photo of New Hampshire photographer Joe martin

I read something the other day. It was a photographer talking about how he offers 12 complimentary  photo shoots each year. Some might say things like. That really made me think, “How is this any way to run a business?” or “your losing out on 12 potential sessions sales and a percentage of your yearly earnings.” When I thought about it, he made a really great point.  In realty what is happening is that I am growing my client list. I am getting more photos for my portfolio and the big one for me is that I am getting to try some shots that I want to shoot. Most times at a  shoot I try to shoot mostly for the client and not so much for me. I feel when someone is paying to have a family, senior or any portrait session they want what they want and they should get that.  When offering a free session to the right person, we can work together on the shoot and I may ask them if we can try something new or something a bit out of the box from a every day photo session that some other photographer might not be able to do when dealing with only paying clients.  Not only that, but it feels good to help someone out who normally couldn’t afford my prices

Well then, how do you find these people for the complimentary sessions? That is were the real work comes in. I will have to work at this. Being a photographer in New Hampshire can be beautiful and tough. It is winter for 4 months and cold for longer. It is hard to get outdoor photography done. Weddings book up for the summer months with family and senior portrait seasons on the days in between. So, I will most likely be doing two or three free photo shoots each month of the spring, summer and fall.  The free shoots will be more of a model type of shoot. One subject at a time. I may included a family or two and in fact have two family shoots already lined up this spring to kick off this season with a running start. I am always looking at people when I am out looking for that right person for an idea I may be thinking up. Most shoots will be just a normal head shoot session or casual portraits being taken outside in the natural beauty that New Hampshire has to offer.

Senior Model Program

North Conway New Hampshire Senior Portrait Models Wanted

Looking for a Senior Portrait Photographer In New Hampshire? Look no further.

This year I will be doing some complimentary “senior model” sessions as well, to get my name out in the local community a little faster.  There are two large high schools near by me. One is in Fryeburg Maine simply named Fryeburg Academy and back here in North Conway we have Kennett High School. I will be seeking to draft 2 students from each school to gift a session to. In doing so I will have them promote my senior portraits as a option for others. I have not worked out all the details as of the date as of this post. I feel it would be fair to offer them a complimentary session including one 8×10 print of their choice and the digital file their. Then, for each person they refer  to me that books a session the senior model we receive a print credit towards other images from their session. They will be given promotional materials to help with this and to track their success. If you are a senior in one of these schools or know someone that is, please contact me or show them this post. Follow my Facebook page to see updates on this program as more information and a flyer will be on the way.

Take a look at my Senior Portrait page for more information, or to book your session today!

Your History; Your Story: The Importance of Your Wedding Photography Album

Your History; Your Story: The Importance of Your Wedding Photography Album

Wedding photography at a New Hampshire

“I do” is heard at this wedding.

After this long cold winter, we long for a hot, sunny day. Let’s hope we get a lot of them, and soon! This might have been the longest coldest winter in the U.S. in a long time.  As this wedding season approaches we are reminded how short that season truly is here in New Hampshire and all of New England.  As a photographer, we look forward to it and wish that wedding season could last forever!

Let me offer  what may be a new point of view on the subject of wedding photography. Long after the guest has returned home and the reception hall has been cleaned and set for the next event, and long after you have returned from your honeymoon and all the cake is gone what will be left? What will be left is the memories of your special day! With high quality wedding photography your memories will come flooding back in a moment when you return to look through your photos. If you every want to return to the feeling of the moment you only need to grab a hot beverage and a comfy chair with your spouse and smile together as you revisit your special day. Your wedding album will provide you with a birds eye view of your wedding day.  Showing the moments that you may have missed, relatives that may have passed since that day, it may bring you even closer to one that you only wished to be closer with.

Myself, I have two weddings on the books so far and a few more that are lining up in short order.  I feel that between weddings and family photo sessions this should be my busiest year yet. I am looking forward to getting to know all of my new friends that I will meet first as clients. There really is nothing like spending the day with a couple on the happiest day of their lives up until this point. If you think about it, what is better then getting married? The only thing that can top that is having children. For a wedding photographer to be there on one of this milestone days is unforgettable.  The couple is happy, the families are happy many of them meeting for the first or maybe just the second time. People come from far and wide to enjoy the day with their family. Many have not seen each other in years. It is our job as photographers to make this a top priority. In my mind it is just as important to make the memories last more then this one Saturday after noon. That is were a printed album comes in.  How many photos do you have of your grandparents? If you do you have any at all I am betting it is just one or two and they are small images that have not been well cared for. Have you ever seen a child going over photos from their own childhood? Many smiles and laughs and many questions and shared stories come from this experience. When you receive your wedding album full of page after page of rich beautiful photography it is sure to spark many conversations in the years to come.

Your wedding is a milestone in your history. It is an important chapter in your story that only a photo album could tell.
Contact me today so we can start the process of preserving and honoring your memories in the way that you deserve.  My prices are set to be affordable yet competitive in a market with a wide range of professional and amateur  photographers. Please see my wedding information page for more about what I can offer you.

Sharing testimonials is an important aspect of any business. Here is what my clients are saying about our experience together after a portrait shoot or wedding. It is always great to hear from them after the shoot to know that they had fun and enjoyed the photos. Here are just a few of the most recent we have received. From a happy family portrait session.

Hannah Quinn: 5 STAR REVIEW via Facebook
“Joe is simply the best!!! He was super creative with beautiful artistic shots of our wedding day and he was even able to capture the little ones in our wedding party!! (There is a lot to be said for someone who can capture young ones smiling and all!) I would HIGHLY recommend Joe to anyone, and I have to say that anyone that looks at our wedding pictures are amazed by the quality of his work :)”

Heidi Englert 5 STAR REVIEW via Facebook
“Joe and Dayna did a newborn shoot for my little girl. They came into my home and set up right in our bedroom. They were very professional and I trusted them with our daughter. The pictures came out great and they did such a nice job with handling Avery with care, I would have never guessed it was their first newborn shoot! I’d definitely call Joe for my next family photo shoot!”

Sarah Robinson Quinby: 5 STAR REVIEW via Facebook
“Joe is incredible to work with. Creative shots taken in a relaxing but fun way. No ‘typical’ and unnatural poses. During the session he worked with 4 kids ages 3-12, connecting with all of them at their level using unique props and the beauty of the surrounding nature to capture their true personalities.”

Senior Portrait From new Hampshire Photographer Joe Martin

From a proud mother: The DiSilva Family
“My Oldest Daughter became a senior this year. Senior year how exciting with Caps and gowns ,Prom and Senior portraits.Who do you choose to take these memorable pictures and how do you decide with so many great photographers in the area? I found a lot on Facebook. I was able to see each style every photographer had and narrow it down to two I was really interested in. I chose Joe Martin. He had a lot of great ideas and listened to what we wanted. We had never done anything like this before as we were a little apprehensive on how it would all turn out. Joe is a true pro-professional brought props from home which made the photos have that extra touch. We went to three different spots in the Tamworth Ossipee area which made each photo extremely different from the last. His eye for perfection is amazing. A week later we had the disk in hand of all the gorgeous pictures he had taken. We are still trying to decide which pictures are the best for they all are extremely beautiful. If your looking for Family Portraits, Senior Photos, or just Regular school pictures of your children , instead of spending your money at Walmart, Sears, or JcPenny try a true professional Joe Martin and create Memories that will last a lifetime with each photo he takes. I’m in love with his work and he will be taking our pictures again as we have another senior next year! Thank you Joe Martin. I’m glad I found you ,I just only wish I learned of your amazing work years ago! Joemartinphotograhy.com is the way to go!

What is a Photographer to Blog about?

What is a Photographer to Blog about?

Beautiful landscape print of a snowy rivers in New Hampshire

Snowing River in New Hampshire

Sure, I could blog about camera gear or my last family photo shoot. I want to offer more then pretty pictures or one family’s story. Plus there will always be that type of blog here and there. I want to be a bit different. I don’t want to give you what ever other photographer gives you. I want to share some of my experiences sure, but I am so much more than that.

Like most people I sit and think about a new blog post. After some time I would find a photo, write a one line back story about the photo and post. Well, that is not a post. In fact, it is almost nothing. It will not get me a better Google ranking. Google looks for new information within a page that contains between 300-2000 words or more. If you’re like me, once you get to a page and see that it has an overwhelming amount of text you do one of two things: You either close the page or you might scroll and scan the page for small lines of text that grab your eye, taking in just a small amount of the carefully crafted post. We all like to share our story to give tips, updates, a news story or better yet, show you what we had for lunch that day.

I want to keep you supplied with a post that is short and sweet, to the point and informational at the same time.  With every post I get a little clearer on what I would like to share and why I want to share it. At the same time, I am trying to become a better writer and better at typing. It is hard to type fast when you spend most of your time backspacing to remove that red line under your words. As I became more comfortable, more blog posts start forming in my head I have to start to write ideas in my phones’ notes and draft emails to myself.

Now what I am blogging about these days? Well, now that is it off season for outdoor photography in my area. At this point this it my only studio space. I am blogging about photography, about my business, and blog about a few product reviews on items I have bought this winter, just to fill in the slow shooting times with some content so Google does not forget about me.

As we close in on portrait and wedding session I will blog about shoots and post photos from them. At the same time, keeping true to my passion to share some knowledge along the way that I have picked up from others or as I try new things by pushing myself in new directions.

One thing to think about and understand is that we live in a ever-changing word. A world that did not have the iPad prior to 2010. A world where most everyone has a Smart Phone, even young children. We live in a world that camera phones are better then the high price digital cameras we lugged around a few years back. What’s next? We barely know what is happening now! One thing that we must adapt to is the fast-changing times and new ways to content with our clients to bring in new business. One thing that is in the now and we have to use to our advantage is the actual Smart Phones. We have to have our sites mobile ready to be view and navigate with ease. What I mean is with the iPhones, Siri and Google’s “search by voice” feature. We need to be ready and able to come up in a search by location and the field of work that we specialize in. Are you ready? Do you even know how to adjust your business to handle this in the best way? I may blog about it in the future once I have a better understanding on how we as photographers can benefit from this new way of internet search algorithms.

In closing, remember that everyone needs to add content to their site. You must blog to be found. Once you have been found in your area of expertise, you do have a bit of an upper hand and do not have to blog as much, but once you stop, the Google Gods will take notice. The guy/gal down the road, that has been working hard to take your place just might take it.

Thanks again for reading! If you want to stay up to date with my posts or have some feedback on this topic, please comment below. If you do want to receive a email update for new posts from my blog you may select the second check box under your comment and you will receive a notice in your Inbox.

Getting Ready for a Portrait Session

Getting Ready for a Portrait Session

Senior Portrait in New Hampshire

Senior Portrait in New Hampshire

Getting ready for a portrait session here in New Hampshire is not just something that I, the photographer, needs to do. Preparing for a photo shoot is something that everyone involved needs to take part in. As I am cleaning my lenses, charging my batteries and making sure my memory cards are empty and ready to capture you or your family in a special way, there are some things you might want to think about before you come to a session.

1: Get some rest. The night before a portrait session you really should try to go to bed a little earlier then you do most nights; just one or two hours would be great. We don’t want you looking tired or weary the day of the shoot. Being the star of the show is hard work. It is more then standing and smiling. There are posing suggestions, and in many cases some short walks to get to the beautiful places which will add to the beauty of the photos we will make together.

2: Eat well. Not only on the day of the shoot but the day(s) before as well. We don’t want anyone getting weak or dizzy halfway into our portrait session. As I said before, we may being doing some small walks to get to a location. We will be in the sun most days for an hour or more, with the added fact that you’re playing to the camera. When you show up with a full nights rest and high energy from eating well nothing can go wrong. Well at least on your end. This will help with your skin color and ability to stay to course until we have completed our time together.

3: Your hair and make up. If you’re a woman, something that may be good to know is that your makeup does not have to be overdone. You should come to your shoot with your normal makeup on. Maybe just a bit more then you would put on if you were going out with friends to a dance or dinner party. Bring a small touch up kit with you if you’re able, for small touch ups. If you’re someone that does not wear makeup then go ahead and skip it today as well. After all, you want to look like you in your photos. For your hair, leave it down to start and if you’re looking to get a few head shots with it up or back, we will do that after we take care of the larger part of your photos. For the guys, if you’re looking to have a hair cut before your portraits, try to do so at least a week prior to the session. It will give time to give it that more natural look and maybe make up a little for that cut that might have been a bit short.

4: Your clothing for the day. I will talk to you before the shoot about what outfits you’re thinking of bringing and what look we are going for. You will want to bring two or three different outfits. Clean goes without saying. Make sure you’re comfortable. When I say that not only do I mean comfortable clothes that fit you well, but also what you like to wear. Sure we want to dress nicer then if we were just hanging out at home or working on the garden. You should be confident in your outfits, not looking stiff in a turtle neck if that is something you would never wear. I understand that some families want to have matching shirts on for some shots, but that trend is changing and changing fast. Just remember, two or three outfit changes for each member. That can be as easy as a shirt change. You don’t need to change pants and shoes too. Ladies might want to start off in a dress or skirt. That way pants or shorts can be added with out having to change your full wardrobe. You will also want to bring a light jacket. After all, I book most of my portrait shoots in New Hampshire or Maine and you know the weather could change at anytime.

5: The last tip I have for getting ready for a portrait experience is to start looking around for ideas. As a photographer it is my job to capture you in your best looks and in a way that tells a story about you as a person. You should have a part in all of this. At some point maybe closer to the date of the session you might jump on Google or Pinterest and search using the terms that fit your session description. Such as “senior portrait ideas” or “family photo ideas” with small children or what ever it is we are doing together that day.

My final thought on getting ready before the shoot, is to make sure you have used the restroom since we will be out in nature. You should bring some water with you also. For families with little ones, making sure their faces are clean when we meet up just saves time on every one so we are not running back to the car to grab a baby wipe to clean up.

Last thing I will say is this is a fun time for us all. We will walk and talk, joke and truly get to know each other. Most little ones are happy to stand and look at the man with the camera for a bit. Please don’t worry about your children at this time. We need your focus as much as, if not more than, the little ones. In a portrait of a family we always try to get all eyes on the camera, but in the event that we don’t get all of you looking for every shot, it will look so much better with the adults or older children looking great, with eyes on me. If the four, five or six year old has a photo or two that they are looking away in it is not only cute but it is to be expected; after all we are creating a memory and for sure if your little one has issues with being still for a long time, we want to capture that also. We just need mom and dad to keep a eye on me. I have four kids and can work my magic to keep most everyone happy for the short time we are together. Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you. You can contact me via the contact link at the top of any page or by following this email link.

Showing Support on Facebook

Showing Support on Facebook

Joe Martin photography Facebook page

When you LIKE someones biz page on FB you’re more than just a click, you are a supporter. To really show support and make what could be a big difference in the person’s Facebook presence, but could end up in a small way showing your friends this page indirectly and helping grow the page and client pool in ways we may never know.  Once you have taken the big step to click LIKE at the top, you should have a look around.  You truly can add support by being a active fan of the page  and scrolling down over the page, maybe liking a few posts of images on the page. Spending some time to get to know the person, place or product, you have just come to support. After all, you would not just walk in to a restaurant and as soon as the door closes open it and walk back out, not one that you would support.

When you LIKE, share or comment on a post it does a few things. First off, it shows the owner of this page your interested in the service they have set up or provided. It also might show up on your news feed letting your friends aware of your support for this page. This is when we as a page owner start to wonder what will take place next. Will they just walk out as soon as the door closes or will they window shop a bit check out what we offer? Maybe click that about tab and follow our link to our website, back to the point at hand. You have made the big step and showed support. Now to really help this page in the big bad world of Facebook, once you start to interact with the page by scrolling the content on the page. Maybe adding a LIKE here and a comment there. This action will show the Facebook algorithm that this page has something that users find this page interesting to users and maybe it should be seen by others or even seen by others that have LIKED the page already. That is what happens with pages once the users start to show interest, Facebook will toss more and more content into the news feed. After all that is why you liked the page in the first place, right? To view the page and its contents? Now that you have liked a few posts and it has started to show in others news feeds and they like it the page can not only been seen in a new light by fans of the page, but by Facebook showing you more from this page.

The owner of the page can see this new following grow and with a little look in the pages insight tab, can see what posts are creating more likes or comments. Then adding the same types of content to keep the users interested in keeping this page in the news feed and the circle of Facebook algorithms continues. After all, a large percent of the social media experience is being entertained as we use the site.  If your going to show support for a friends Facebook business page than try and  show it in a way that will truly support them and not just add to the number of likes at the top of their page.

If you have feedback on this or something to add please comment of send me an email. Thanks for reading my page and showing support 🙂

If you would like to support my page you can my banner on the right side of this page of follow this link.

Then show me some true support and LIKE a few of my posts. If you truly like them.  Joe’s Photography Facebook page
