Incorporating Family History Into Wedding Photos | Family Heirlooms As Wedding Photo Props

Incorporating Family History Into Wedding Photos | Family Heirlooms As Wedding Photo Props

PHOTO OF THE DAY – Family Heirlooms As Wedding Photo Props

In todays post I have used two wedding Photos. I know my Photo of The Day posts are most times just one photo with a bit on how I shot it or what the day was about when I took the photo. I thought that to really make my point I needed these two photos to tell my story.

This wedding was in the City of Berlin , NH. It is a small city more like a large town. A 100 years ago the city of Berlin was a mill town. Over the years the mills have closed down and with it many of the towns income creating jobs have also been washed away with the mills.

I have always loved props in photos. When they are good and they are relevant to the photo of the subject. This is not exception. I was meeting the bride at her moms home before the wedding. I knew this would be a good place to find family history to include in some photos. I was not sure how when I got to the home, but as soon as I saw the spoons I knew it was meant to be.

ABOUT THESE PHOTOS:

So what better way to show off the family connection the history the love this family had for each other then with this great wall display? This display of baby spoons was very detailed. It had small spoons all engraved with the child’s name for all 13 kids, that is right 13. This bride was the youngest of the 13 and was on the way to start her own family. I had first thought I would hang the shoes from this and capture the silver of all the spoons and the shoes together. I think it works very well. It tells a story for all that see. It for sure will create emotion to the family when they see it. So then I thought I would add the rings to the brides spoon in some way. I though I might put the rings into the spoon or on the stem, but nothing looked as nice together as the rings resting on the spoon like in the second photo. I had shot a few photos of the rings then removed the spiders web from the wooden rack. I really like the way it looked with the web. So I edited it and included it in there wedding photos. I edited the first photo with a more vintage look using a bit of a matted look to finish it off. The second photo is a basic black and white with a high clarity to bring out some of the finer details.

Wedding rings lean on a baby spoon that was the brides soon as a child.

Baby spoon with the brides name on it really add to the details of this photo.

Mom You Look Nice | Getting Ready Photo form A New Hampshire Wedding

Mom You Look Nice | Getting Ready Photo form A New Hampshire Wedding

PHOTO(s) OF THE DAY: Mom You Look Nice- A Short Series

Love this wedding photo form a 2014 wedding. The wedding was at the Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, NH. The couple had a room at a hotel next to the train station. That is the spot we took some getting ready photos. Mom was having her hair done. Her little girls was just hanging out watching the process. As mom was fishings up they started to chat a bit. that is when the magic happened. Love the candid wedding photos like this one. This is not my child but I wish I had photos of my kids and myself that had this connection and feel to them.  At every wedding I have been too with little ones. This little one was my little buddy. She was intrigued in why I was there. I told her I was there to take photos of the wedding. She was very fun to witness at the wedding. She even joined her mom during the exchanging of the vows all the way to the kiss.

ABOUT THESE PHOTOS: I was in close shooting with my 17-50 mm lens. My settings were 50mm @f2.8 with 1/50 shutter speed. I took the other tow photos below a the same settings. Mom was just talking with her daughter and the little girl was very intrigued by all that was happening. I thought these photos looked nice in this vintage style. Again edited in Adobe Lightroom. The couple loved the photos as did I.

EARTH VIEW

EARTH VIEW

PHOTO OF THE DAY: EARTH VIEW

If you have been following me for a bit then you know I loved Puerto Rico and my camera did too. This is one of the first shots from Puerto Rico even know we had not even landed yet. The angle on this photo is so cool as it shows the depth of the city, almost like the Earth View on Google maps. You can see them in a 3D like style. It is like a tiny Lego city with the light hitting it all just right. This is was the light can do to a photo. With it being side lite like it is. It shows the depth. If the sun had been more over head and beaming straight down onto the city this would look flat non life like. It would give a totally deferent feel and mood then what we have now.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO: As we came in for our landing I pulled my camera out and started to look for something to shoot. We were still over water so I had to wait for a bit and then there is was Puerto Rico. I was surprised to see the city right up to the coast. Being a new traveler to Puerto Rico I was thinking the costs would be all beach and jungle. Proves we should not always assume what we think about a place is true, but that we should investigate it to know as much as we can about a person, place or thing. I edited this photo in Lightrooom as I always do. I never us Photoshop. I truly do like to use it. I like a quick edit of my work and lightroom does that for me.

The Long Ride Down Form A Mountain Top Wedding

The Long Ride Down Form A Mountain Top Wedding

PHOTO OF THE DAY- THE LONG RIDE DOWN FROM A MOUNTAIN TOP WEDDING

When you have a passion in life why not include it in the best day of your life? That is what this wedding couple did on their big day. They both have a love for skiing. What better way to encompass that then to get married at the top of their favorite ski resort. Jays Peck. The wedding party, DJ and both photographers made the trip up via the chair lift. I was lucky enough to be the last one down sitting behind the bride and groom to capture some memorable photographs of the trip to the base lodge. It was a great ceremony with time after to shoot some photos at the top. The day ended with a epic sunset and joyous party to celebrate the joining of this young couple. If you want to see other photos form this wedding day please follow this link to a gallery of photos.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO: I was the last one down. The staff was spacing out guests every over chair for safety. Being that the couple and I were the only ones left they left me ride in the chair behind them. If not behind them this shot is not a shot. I had them kiss in a shot and look back in a shot. I just love this shot the best out of the other versions on it.

THE FUNNY BRIDE

THE FUNNY BRIDE

PHOTO OF THE DAY- THE FUNNY BRIDE

It might sound cliché but it is true.  The wedding day is the happiest day in a young couples life. This day was not different I that way. This couple was truly in love he with her and her with him. They had it shining all around them. They both had large families with them on this day and their fun and happiness was contagious and spread over the room when ever they walked in. The bride was the youngest of thirteen children. This means she is the baby with many older siblings crying at every little hug and kiss that the couple made. It was for sure a memorable day for all. One part of the wedding that was most special in my eyes, was that the bride had all her sisters as her brides maids. They all had different color dress which added even more detail to this amazing day.

About this photo: This photo is of the bride and some of her best friends in her life. I believe some of her past school friends and some from work. They posed for a few photos near this great old barn. As I clicked away and they changed the poses they began to make little joke that made them all break out in laughter. Love it when I can capture some true moments in the day. I am always looking for a photo that will make a true memory. If this was my wedding photo I would love it more then the posed portraits. This photo speaks of good times at my wedding.

WEDDING DAY SNAPSHOT | 20 WEDDING PHOTOS BUILD A TIME LINE

WEDDING DAY SNAPSHOT | 20 WEDDING PHOTOS BUILD A TIME LINE

PHOTO OF THE DAY: WEDDING DAY SNAPSHOT

I love Adobe Lightroom for many reasons. It is a fast sorter of photos. Maybe not the fastest but it works well for culling out the miss fires and non keepers. Photogrpahers never want to admit they take a photo that is not 100% amazing every time, but it does happen. So once home form a wedding or portrait session. I will load the images on to my computer with Lightroom. This is great because Lightroom has a feature that allows users to back up to another spot on your computer a second copy of the same files. This does this all at the same time. So before we even start to edit we have 2 copies of the files and all professional photographers should practices the art of backing up. This way if anything was to happen to one of the hard drives we would have another copy on a separate hard drive for safe keeping. One other reason I love Lightroom is that you can create collage images by selecting photos from a session or over time from many sessions to build a collection set or best of, insert category here.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO: This collage is one I built form the wedding photos of a wedding in 2014. I really had a fun time at this wedding. Really nice people and a truly fun day. We were in southern New Hampshire in a small town called, Contoocook. We had perfect weather for the day. Another reason I liked this wedding was that the brides maids all had on a different colored dress. I love that look in the photos. It was great that the groomsmen had matching ties.. So I thought I would build this image form just 20 of the days photos. It is a time line from before, during and after the ceremony. I am going to build out a few more of these types of images for all my weddings. Thanks again for checking out my page.

REMEMBER IT IS HIS WEDDING TOO

REMEMBER IT IS HIS WEDDING TOO

PHOTO OF THE DAY: REMEMBER IT IS HIS WEDDING TOO

On the days leading up to the wedding and the day of the wedding many treat it as the brides big day. Lets not forget that groom. It is his big day also. He is as happy, full of fear and or butterflies and needs just as much love and support as his bride does.  In some cases he is the sole bread winner. In other cases his job keeps him out of the home or away on business much of his working days. This is limiting to him as far as being able to chose themes or ideas for his wedding. It is good that in a lot of cases with men. We do not care as much about all the fine details of the wedding as our soon to be wife does or will do as the wedding day approaches. He does get support from friends and family and from his bride. Really I don’t need to say much more then lets not forget the groom on his big day.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO: Her is a great photo of a groom and his groomsmen. His dad and brothers. What is a better way to celebrate the joining of two families other then to have all the men in you family be in your party.  I had them line up on a deck at the home they were to marry at. We had some laughs and a few jokes back and forth. Then we got done to business and took some photos of them lined up and all facing me. I like to edit in a style that others may not. I like this look it says edgy and vintage all in one. It is not the average photo. This is my style. I know it is not for every one and I am ok with that. If your looking for a wedding photographer and are a little on the fence about my style. Lets talk. Give me a call or shoot me a email and lets find out what it is I can help you with. I can be your problem solver. Contact me today.

Standing in Shadows

Standing in Shadows

PHOTO OF THE DAY- STANDING IN SHADOWS

There is no better feeling then to reach the top of the summit on a hike. Well but for getting to the top of a hike and seeing this as a view. The true peak of this hill was off to the left of this scene about 50 feet taller then I am standing take this photo. We add set out for a nice easy walk in the woods on my wifes birth day. We had set out for easy, but one we got to far to turn back it was a real hike. Carrying a 3 year old at times as it was to long, steep and just hard for his little legs.  This short hike known as The Boulder Loop Trail that is just a short drive up the Kancamagus highway (RT 112) in Conway, NH was steep and felt much longer then the 3 miles it had stated on Trip Advisor. It was totally worth it. There was boulders the size of houses and cars up the side of this trail and down the other side. It was well marked with a clear trail. No over growth or trees down. If you are looking for a nice family hike with no young children then this might be your next hike.  Happy Birthday Dayna

ONE OF MY FAVORITE WEDDING PHOTOS

ONE OF MY FAVORITE WEDDING PHOTOS

PHOTO OF THE DAY: ONE OF MY FAVORITE WEDDING PHOTOS

I thought for todays photo I would post one of my favorite wedding photos. This was form a wedding last year in 2014. The wedding venue was in New Hampshire at a great place named Church Landing at Mill Falls  This waterfront venue is a great in town yet out of the location for any event, not just your wedding. This wedding was held out doors under the big white tent. It was a beautiful day and we had a beautiful couple with family and friends all around. For me weddings are one day of fun with a sprinkling of stressful moments. Will every thing go well? I someone in the wedding party pass out? Will I get all the photos I need without other guests jumping in front of me to grab that epic iPhone photo. Well this wedding went off like more not one issue and fun all around.

ABOUT THIS PHOTO: This photo was taken during the ceremony. The Bride & Groom had writing vows that they read aloud to each other. At one point the Bride almost cried but she was able to fight back the emotions and save her makeup. The officiant at this wedding was a friend of the family and tossed a few jokes out making the couple and the guest have a brief laugh. This photo was taken at just the right moment when all had started to laugh. I love the way that she is enjoying her soon to be husbands laugh and viewing of the crowd.I was back a bit away and had zoomed in with my long lens to crop out any distracting elements focusing on the couple and creating a memory of this moment.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: TOP OF THE MORNING

Here is another nature photo from our trip to Puerto Rico. We were out all day at the beach a great location named Dirty Beach. See my post about it to find out why it is called such a name. This spot was at the top of a rolling hill on the way down to the cost. The clouds were just amazing I had to have the driver pull to the side so I could just spend a few minutes taking this one. I am very happy with how this turned out. I hope you are too. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. As always thanks for stopping by my site. As always all of my fine art prints are available for purchase  in many sizes and on many mediums from archival paper to ready to hang wall canvas. Dirty Beach is the name of this beautiful location. Yup you guessed it in Puerto Rico. This is the spot to come to if you travel to PR. The name Dirty Beach was giving to this spot because the tide drags a large amount of seed weed up on the shore line.  The locals gave it its name so the tourists would steer clear the true name of this dream location is La Playuela. It must work as there was almost no one there on the two days we went. I was in photography heaven. You can not see it from here but on the end of that point directly in the middle of the photo there is a natural rock arch. I did walk around the beach and into the arch. The photo of the arch can be seen here. Thanks so much for visiting my page. A big thanks to all that shared or like my photos. Please leave a comment below I love to hear form you guys.

Upside Down Mountain

Upside Down Mountain

PHOTO OF THE DAY: UPSIDE DOWN MOUNTAIN

Meet Mt. Chocorua. It is right down the street from our home in New Hampshire. It is one of he most photographed locations in New Hampshire. I think you can see why once you see it. This was in early fall and the lake was giving the best reflection. I shot many photos this day and will post more over the next few weeks. The bridge in the center of this photo is a great spot with one more small lake to grab a reflection of the mountain on.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: LIFE IN THE COUNTRY

On a return trip from upstate New York our pug Buddha had to use the restroom. As I pulled off the exit I saw this great old iron bridge. I tried to find it via my internal compass. As I was closing in on the bridge thinking I will find it. We drop paste what looked like and turned out to be a castle. This castle turned out to be a restaurant.  As we let the dog walked in the woods near by I snapped some photos and created this one. I was happy the clouds were playing nice. Nothing worse then finding a great location and having a gray or totally blue sky. With the small patch of flowers the sky and the green of the trees I was able to display the beauty of this old stone barn and silo. It was a great find. I never did make it to the bridge that day. Maybe next time.

Do you love the ocean? I like a lot of people do. My family takes at least one trip to the ocean every summer. This was one of those lucky shots. As the day was coming to an end and the clouds were closing in I was hoping for a few more shots of this once a year trip. As I was looking around I saw this great bird flying in my direction I pulled up and snap it.

What an amazing wedding venue in Berlin, This is St. Anne Church and what a wounder it is. This Victorian church was built in the 1900. NH. This brick structure was built with tow towers and in a center piece to the city. I grabbed  this shot after the wedding and the bridal part had left from the ceremony to head to the reception hall.  This was one of the most amazing churches I have been in and was so glad once I saw the architecture.

Ben & Mae ~ Lake Winnipesaukee Wedding ~ Laconia NH

Ben & Mae ~ Lake Winnipesaukee Wedding ~ Laconia NH

Ben & Mae were married this summer at a beautiful home on Lake Winnipesaukee in Laconia, New Hampshire. Family and friends gathered around the boat dock to witness the joining of these two families in marriage.  The forcast was predicting rain showers for the day and in fact, there were a few sprinkles in the morning. As the ceremony  approached, the clouds closed in and we knew the rain was inevitable. The mother of the groom was prepared and ready with fifty clear umbrellas, just in case.  I brought two of them down to the waters edge and had them ready and waiting. All was great for most of the vows. As they were getting ready to exchange the rings, the sky opened up.  I was lucky that I was on shore and under the cover of the trees for the most part. The brother of the groom grabbed two umbrellas and handed one to the maid of honor and he opened one too. All of a sudden,  it really started coming down.  I was just clicking away on my camera looking for that shot that would not only capture the moment of the wedding, but the beauty of the rain.  I have learned to use what some would think of as problems into advantages. I knew then and there, that if I highlighted the rain, I could capture their day in such a unique and powerful way. In the end, the bride’s words were beautiful. She said,   “It was perfect, and just like I wanted”  If the bride is happy, everyone is happy. To view more images form this wedding follow the link at the bottom.
