Poker Face – Self Portrait Project

When the mood strikes me I take some time to create self portraits. The great thing about having some strobes is that I can shoot even in the dead of night. This past yea,r I have set up my lights and backdrops a few times and created this emotional series of self portraits. With just a subtle change of the lights, turning them up or rising them higher, I completely change my look. Not only does it give me some more time shooting, it gives me insight to know a bit more about what it is like to be in a photo shoot.  I get to play with my poses and faces, seeing how the light and shadows play on the shape of the face from the small changes I have made with the lights or pose.

Weathered - Self Portrait Project

Weathered – Self Portrait Project

I use a software program called Light Room for the editing in almost all of my photography. It is made by the same folks that make Photoshop, but it is a very different program and can achieve great edits and dynamite changes to the images.  I had recent cut my hair so I wanted to create some new head shots for my websites.  I also thought I would play a bit and toss on my old army jacket grab an old firearm and toss my hat on for a few grungy looks.  Doing these self portraits can be a great way to learn about light, camera angles and self.  As I sit in on the stool, I play the model, making slight adjustments and changes as I go. I try to change my face my arms and my mood.  I do not set out with a vision for what I will capture. I just know it will be worth the time taken to set up and break down the gear. It is amazing the amount of thought that passes though your mind in the ten seconds it takes for the timer to go off and take each photo.  Once I had the images I could not wait to get them into my computer because I know that is when the creation process really begins.

I used a lot of dark tones to create a feeling of life and of death in each of my images. I turn most of them into black and white images, something I do not normally do. I really worked in bringing the details in the eyes to the center of each one. I wanted the viewer to see into my soul, past the art and into my reality. If you are looking to create a series of “Emotional Portraits” like these for yourself contact me today.  Session fees for this type of session start at just $125.00 and take about one hour.

Art For Your Home Canvas Wraps

Once upon a time, when people made a portrait, of you received a print. A real, physical, paper print. Then, the whole world went digital. Some die-hard photographers stuck to the course and made the prints part of their business plan and have rode the storm through the digital age. The print revolution is making a huge comeback! Part of that come back is do to one of my favorite products – the canvas gallery wrap. They are ready to hang right out of the box. There is no framing involved, so your not waiting for the framers, or having to invest more into framing. The next time you are looking at a photographer, take notice to the products that they offer. It could be the difference between a great portrait, or just another snapshot.

In this short video I show you a few gallery wraps I have purchased in my studio. If you have any questions about portraits, whether it is for family, wedding or senior photos, please feel free to ask me. Even if you chose to go with another photographer, at least you will know your options and have done your best to find the right fit for you and your family.

Contact me today to discuss your next session or follow the links above to the session your wanting to book.

The gallery wraps in this video are 20″x30″ they come from Pixoto.com and they sell in my studio for $250.00 each

Conway Photographer is Artist of The Month at The Conway Public Library

It is a honor to be “May Artist of the month” at the Conway Public Library. Today, my wife Dayna and I, along with our two daughters, hung 25 portraits and fine art prints in the gallery space.  I sent up an area for my contact information and a sign-up sheet to enter a raffle for a complimentary family portrait session. If you are a local, stop by the Conway Library to view my work in person and be sure to sign up for the drawing. I look forward to inspiring others through my work.

From the Conway Pubic Library website

“Our May artist of the month is Joe Martin. Joe is a passionate photographer, capturing the beauty of the people and the land. This passion started back in his high school years when he received a film camera as a gift for Christmas. At that point photography became a real focus for him in school working with black and white film in the darkroom in the the late 80′s. One of his firsts jobs was for a local photographer that again found Joe in the darkroom all day on Saturday’s. It was not long after that Joe found that darkrooms were not place he wanted to spend his days and he changed is path to become a cook at a restaurant in North Conway were he worked for 16 years as he started his family and moved to the small town that he lives in today.”

Image of certificate from a portrait lighting workshop

Certificate of Completion of Portrait Lighting Workshop

This summer, I was feeling like I need to get out and do something for me. I was talking to my wife about this and sharing that work and sleep was all I did this year,  and I truly needed to take a short vacation. Not away from anyone in particular, just away from everyday life responsibilities. (I make wooden toys also, if you did not know – Willowtoys.com is our family business that I have successfully run for the last ten years.) I was working in the shop one day and my wife, Dayna, came out and told me she had found my vacation! It was not a vacation but a class. A class that had to do with a passion of mine, photography! It was a portrait lighting course that was being taught by a amazing teacher, Bobbie LaneShe is an award-winning commercial photographer, and an award winning educator. How lucky was I? It was just a three hour drive away, luckily! I packed my bags and my gear and headed off to Maine Media Workshops for a week of in-depth training.  Little did I know, it was a week that would change me as a professional, forever. We had class from 8:30am-6pm, every day. We shot on location and in the studio. We were taught the right way to set up lighting backdrops and how to control light and even how to shape light. It was a true life changing week in many ways. They had models brought in for us to work with. Some that had worked in the school before and some had never been in front of a camera. We where shown how to talk to the models and how to give posing tips. We went on sort field trips to the small town of Camden, Maine. We took photos of people in the street, which was a great icebreaker to get us used to talking to people that we had not even met before, so when we did have clients, we would be even more comfortable taking to them one on one.  We went to a park and took some models with us and where shown how to use natural light .

It was all-day training and shooting, then back in our rooms, is was all night editing. They were long days, but great days!  I am so glad I was able to make it there learn what I had learned and bring back so much to my own photography style and business. With this new found skill of seeing the light and using it to create even better portraits, I have a better understanding of what light works and does not work, and how to use it to make my clients look their best in each one of their photographs. It was so worth the investment of time and money! I will keep replaying the audio that was recorded from the class and reviewing the notes I took to have it become second nature in my life.

If you live in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont or Massachusetts and need a photographer for portraits of any type form senior portraits, family photos , newborn or wedding photography. Please contact me today.

New Life New Day ~ By New Hampshire Newborn Photographers Joe & Dayna Martin

New Life New Day ~ By New Hampshire Newborn Photographers Joe & Dayna Martin

Our latest Newborn Sparkle Session was perfect! Little Jantabi lived up to the African meaning of her name, “Sunshine.” She slept through the entire session, only waking to nurse a few times and  then she fell fast asleep again.  At just seven days old, she was the perfect age for a newborn photography session. We have known her Mom, Amy, for many years. It was a pleasure to not only meet this little ray of sunshine, but also Jantabi’s father.  They opened their home to us and helped us turn their living room into a temporary studio.  With Reggae music playing quietly in the background, their whole home was filled with a loving, relaxed energy. We used some of the beautifully patterned fabric that Amy brought home from their last trip to Africa.  It was so nice to include some of the family items that have special meaning to them. Personalizing Newborn Sparkle Sessions are important to us to not only honor the unique child, but the family, culture and history as well.  It meant a lot to us to work with the family to co-create such a special experience with photos that are already being shared all over the world.

We are looking forward to our next newborn session already! Bring this unique service to our area means so much to me and my wife. If you are interested in learning more about our Newborn Sparkle Session, please check out our newborn photography page.  Or contact us today.

Welcome, Phoebe Isis! Newborn Sparkle Session ~ Joe Martin New Hampshire Photographer

Welcome, Phoebe Isis! Newborn Sparkle Session ~ Joe Martin New Hampshire Photographer

This week we had the pleasure of meeting this little lady, Phoebe Isis. She was a beautiful soul and loved being in her Mama’s arms. We are proponents for attachment parenting and during our Newborn sessions we encourage mothers to nurse and hold their babies as much as possible.  We have learned a lot in the short time that we have introduced our Newborn Photography Sparkle Session. We have learned the importance of having sessions with babies under two weeks old. Although Phoebe was a bit older, we enjoyed our time with her very much!  Her parents took my wife, Dayna’s Natural Childbirth class back when they were pregnant with their first baby. Phoebe is their third child so we had a very special connection with this family, having seen their family begin. It was an honor to connect with them again, and give them the gift of beautiful photographs of their first daughter.
If your pregnant or know someone that is, let them know that they can contact us today! Whether is it childbirth classes, breastfeeding help, Doula service or newborn photography, we would love to connect and support local families on their journey to parenthood and beyond.

New Hampshire Newborn Photographers ~ Introducing Annamay!

New Hampshire Newborn Photographers ~ Introducing Annamay!

newborn photographer posted a photo

Newborn baby in a basket in this photograph

My wife, Dayna and I had another Newborn Sparkle Session today with this little lady, Annamay! She was such a sweet baby. One thing we have learned is that newborn photography takes great patience. Newborns need to eat often. Annamay was having a hard time staying asleep, so we started and stopped a dozen times during our four hours together. We believe strongly that the baby’s needs come first and foremost, so we are willing to wait until the newborns are content and relaxed before we start a new scene during the session. There is so much to keep track of during a newborn session. Safety, heat, white noise and music, costume changes, background changes and all of the little details are a lot to focus on at once. We are learning together and my wife and I make a great team! We are happy with the newborn photography that we have created together and look forward to getting better and better at our combined creative vision.

Wedding Dresses In Small Town New Hampshire & History of the Wedding Gown~North Conway Photographer

Wedding Dresses In Small Town New Hampshire & History of the Wedding Gown~North Conway Photographer

Image of a wedding dress hanging on the walk way at a wedding venue in New Hampshrie

Buying a wedding gown in small town New Hampshire.

He bought the ring. He then got down on one knee and asked you one of life’s biggest questions.  You said yes through the tears. The story begins…

Now what? So many things flood to your mind as what to do for the big day.  You both have ideas – big ideas and can not stop talking and thinking about the fun details. The cake, the flowers, the D.J. or band, the location….and the most anticipated, and special detail, buying a wedding dress!

The most renown and respected store to visit if you are a bride-to-be is Inspirations Bridal. I love that they are an upscale and knowledgeable and even though they make me take my shoes off when I entered the store, to avoid any salt or sand being tracked in, I love that the respect their dresses so much.  They have white slippers to put on so you don’t have to walk around in your socks. I thought that was genius That is what I call great customer service! They are in North Conway, New Hampshire and the staff is respectful, patient and inspiring.

If your in the mood for a road trip, you could visit Berlin, New Hampshire and check out Betty Dee Fashions. This is another fabulous store and it is, in fact, where my wife found her wedding dress! They have been around for years and are a trusted source for everything bridal. My wife loved her experience there almost twenty years ago! She still remembers the details of the times she visited there, and that shows me how very important the bridal shop truly is in the planning experience. This got me thinking…. I wonder what the history of the wedding dress is? My research began:

“HISTORY OF WEDDING DRESSES

  1. The rite of a white wedding dress came from the princes’ palaces and only spread slowly at the beginning of the 19’s century.
  2. Only at the beginning of the 1920’s white wedding fashion represents the bourgeois-churchly moral, the virginity of the bride which equates purity.
  3. The lifting of the veil was part of ancient wedding ritual, symbolizing the groom taking possession of the wife or the revelation of the bride by her parents to the groom for his approval. An opulent veil was supposed to enwrap the bride like a precious present.
wedding dress or wedding gown is the clothing worn by a bride during a wedding ceremony. Color, style and ceremonial importance of the gown can depend on the religion and culture of the wedding participants. Most brides choose a dress of white to symbolize purity of the soul.
WESTERN CULTURE

Weddings performed during and immediately following the Middle Ages were often more than just a union between two people. They could be a union between two families, two businesses or even two countries. Many weddings were more a matter of politics than love, particularly among the nobility and the higher social classes. Brides were therefore expected to dress in a manner that cast their families in the most favorable light, for they were not representing only themselves during the ceremony. Brides from wealthy families often wore rich colors and exclusive fabrics. It was common to see them wearing bold colors and layers of furs, velvet and silk.Over the centuries, brides continued to dress in a manner befitting their social status – always in the height of fashion, with the richest, boldest materials money could buy. The poorest of brides wore their best church dress on their wedding day. The amount of material a wedding dress contained also was a reflection of the bride’s social standing and indicated the extent of the family’s wealth to wedding guests. Today, there are wedding dresses available in all price ranges, and Western traditions have loosened up to include a rainbow of colors and variety of lengths, which are now considered acceptable. Women may purchase ready-made gowns, wear a family heirloom, or they may choose to have a dressmaker create one for her. In addition, today many bridal salons have samples of wedding gowns in their stores where the bride selects a certain style and orders one to be made to fit.  (Photos public domain. Files from the Wikimedia Commons)Photo 1: Lady Forrest 1876, Victorian style dress
Photo 2: Apache bride
Photo 3: The woman to the far right is wearing a typical wedding dress from 1929. Up until the late 1930’s, wedding dresses reflected the styles of the day. From that time onward, wedding dresses have traditionally been based on Victorian styles.Wedding dresses have traditionally been based on the popular styles of the day. For example, in the 1920s, wedding dresses were typically short in the front with a longer train in the back and were worn with cloche-style wedding veils. This tendency to follow current fashions continued until the late 1940s, when it became popular to revert to long, full-skirted designs reminiscent of the Victorian era. Although there has always been a style that dominates the bridal market for a time, and then shifts with the changes in fashion, a growing number of modern brides are not choosing to follow these trends. This is due in large part to non-traditional and non-first-time weddings, and women who are marrying later in life.Today, Western wedding dresses are usually white[1], though “wedding white” includes shades such as eggshell, ecru and ivory. […]Mary, Queen of Scots, wore a white wedding gown in 1559 when she married her first husband, Francis Dauphin of France because it was her favorite color, although white was then the color of mourning for French Queens. The first documented instance of a princess who wore a white wedding gown for a royal wedding ceremony is that of Philippa of England, who wore a tunic with a cloak in white silk bordered with grey squirrel and ermine in 1406.[3]White did not become a popular option until 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg. Victoria wore a white gown for the event to incorporate some lace she prized. The official wedding portrait photograph was widely published, and many other brides opted for white in accordance with the Queen’s choice.[4]The tradition continues today in the form of a white wedding, though prior to the Victorian era, a bride was married in any color, black being especially popular in Scandinavia.[5] Later, many people assumed that the color white was intended to symbolize virginity, though this was not the original intention. (It was the color blue that was connected to purity.) The white gown is in fact a symbolic Christening gown. It is a variation of the white surplice worn in the Western Catholic tradition by members of the clergy, church choirs and servers and the gowns worn by girls celebrating their first communion and at their confirmation and also by women making religious vows. Jews have gone to great lengths [6] to follow[7] these Western (Judeo-Christian) customs, whilst adhering to the laws of Tzniut. Today, the white dress is understood merely as the most traditional and popular choice for weddings.
NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE

The indigenous peoples of the Americas have varying traditions related to weddings and thus wedding dresses. A Hopi bride traditionally would have her garments woven by the groom and any men in the village who wished to participate. The garments consisted of a large belt, two all-white wedding robes, a white wedding robe with red stripes at top and bottom, white buckskin leggings and moccasins, a string for tying the hair, and a reed mat in which to wrap the outfit. This outfit also would serve as a shroud, since these garments would be necessary for the trip through the underworld.
A Pueblo bride wore a cotton garment tied above the right shoulder, secured with a belt around the waist.
In the traditions of the Delaware, a bride would wear a knee-length skirt of deerskin and a band of wampum beads around her forehead. Except for fine beads or shell necklaces, the body would be bare from the waist up. If it were a winter wedding, she would wear deerskin leggings and moccasins and a robe of turkey feathers. Her face would be painted with white, red and yellow clay.
The tribes of Northern California (which include the Klamath, the Modoc and the Yurok) had a traditional bridal dress woven in symbolic colors: white for the east, blue for the south, yellow (orange) for the west; and black for the north. Turquoise and silver jewelry were worn by both the bride and the groom in addition to a silver concho belt. Jewelry was considered a shield against evils including hunger, poverty and bad luck.EASTERN CULTUREMany wedding dresses in ChinaIndia (wedding sari) and Vietnam (in the traditional form of the Ao dai) are colored red, the traditional color of good luck and auspiciousness. Nowadays, many women choose other colors besides red. In modern mainland Chinese weddings, the bride may opt for Western dresses of any color, and later on a traditional costume for the official tea ceremony. In modern Taiwanese weddings, the bride generally picks red (following Chinese tradition) or white (more Western) silk for the wedding gown material, but most will wear the red traditional garmet for their formal wedding banquets. […]Red wedding saris are the traditional garment choice for brides in Indian culture. Sari fabric is also traditionally silk. Over time, color options and fabric choices for Indian brides have expanded. Today fabrics like crepe, Georgette, charmeuse, and satin are used, and colors have been expanded to include gold, pink, orange, maroon, brown, and yellow as well.[8] Indian brides in Western countries often wear the sari at the wedding ceremony and change into traditional Indian wear afterwards (lehnga, choli, etc.).At Japanese weddings, brides will often wear three or more dresses throughout the ceremony and subsequent celebrations with a traditional kimono, white and color dress combinations are popular. White is used because in Japan it symbolizes death – in this case, the bride becomes dead to her family. The bride will eventually remove her white kimono to reveal another colored one – usually red – to symbolize her rebirth into her husband’s family. The Javanese people of Indonesia wear a kebaya, a traditional kind of blouse, along with batik. In the Philippines, variations of the Baro’t saya are considered to be wedding attire for women, along with the Barong Tagalog for men.”

Thank you so much to: https://www.marryjim.com for sharing the history of the wedding dress!

Reading the history of the wedding dress makes me want to reiterate the incredible importance of the decision:

My first choice/recommendation is hands-down Inspirations Bridal, 984 White Mountain Hwy, North Conway, NH, 03860 (603) 447-1251
In my opinion the only place to shop for a wedding dress in a locally-owned shop. In doing so, you are supporting your community and what better way to begin your family life, but to connect with your “local family.”  I would love to here your input about this. Your History; Your Story: The Importance of Your Wedding Photography Album

Your History; Your Story: The Importance of Your Wedding Photography Album

Wedding photography at a New Hampshire

“I do” is heard at this wedding.

After this long cold winter, we long for a hot, sunny day. Let’s hope we get a lot of them, and soon! This might have been the longest coldest winter in the U.S. in a long time.  As this wedding season approaches we are reminded how short that season truly is here in New Hampshire and all of New England.  As a photographer, we look forward to it and wish that wedding season could last forever!

Let me offer  what may be a new point of view on the subject of wedding photography. Long after the guest has returned home and the reception hall has been cleaned and set for the next event, and long after you have returned from your honeymoon and all the cake is gone what will be left? What will be left is the memories of your special day! With high quality wedding photography your memories will come flooding back in a moment when you return to look through your photos. If you every want to return to the feeling of the moment you only need to grab a hot beverage and a comfy chair with your spouse and smile together as you revisit your special day. Your wedding album will provide you with a birds eye view of your wedding day.  Showing the moments that you may have missed, relatives that may have passed since that day, it may bring you even closer to one that you only wished to be closer with.

Myself, I have two weddings on the books so far and a few more that are lining up in short order.  I feel that between weddings and family photo sessions this should be my busiest year yet. I am looking forward to getting to know all of my new friends that I will meet first as clients. There really is nothing like spending the day with a couple on the happiest day of their lives up until this point. If you think about it, what is better then getting married? The only thing that can top that is having children. For a wedding photographer to be there on one of this milestone days is unforgettable.  The couple is happy, the families are happy many of them meeting for the first or maybe just the second time. People come from far and wide to enjoy the day with their family. Many have not seen each other in years. It is our job as photographers to make this a top priority. In my mind it is just as important to make the memories last more then this one Saturday after noon. That is were a printed album comes in.  How many photos do you have of your grandparents? If you do you have any at all I am betting it is just one or two and they are small images that have not been well cared for. Have you ever seen a child going over photos from their own childhood? Many smiles and laughs and many questions and shared stories come from this experience. When you receive your wedding album full of page after page of rich beautiful photography it is sure to spark many conversations in the years to come.

Your wedding is a milestone in your history. It is an important chapter in your story that only a photo album could tell.
Contact me today so we can start the process of preserving and honoring your memories in the way that you deserve.  My prices are set to be affordable yet competitive in a market with a wide range of professional and amateur  photographers. Please see my wedding information page for more about what I can offer you.

Sharing testimonials is an important aspect of any business. Here is what my clients are saying about our experience together after a portrait shoot or wedding. It is always great to hear from them after the shoot to know that they had fun and enjoyed the photos. Here are just a few of the most recent we have received. From a happy family portrait session.

Hannah Quinn: 5 STAR REVIEW via Facebook
“Joe is simply the best!!! He was super creative with beautiful artistic shots of our wedding day and he was even able to capture the little ones in our wedding party!! (There is a lot to be said for someone who can capture young ones smiling and all!) I would HIGHLY recommend Joe to anyone, and I have to say that anyone that looks at our wedding pictures are amazed by the quality of his work :)”

Heidi Englert 5 STAR REVIEW via Facebook
“Joe and Dayna did a newborn shoot for my little girl. They came into my home and set up right in our bedroom. They were very professional and I trusted them with our daughter. The pictures came out great and they did such a nice job with handling Avery with care, I would have never guessed it was their first newborn shoot! I’d definitely call Joe for my next family photo shoot!”

Sarah Robinson Quinby: 5 STAR REVIEW via Facebook
“Joe is incredible to work with. Creative shots taken in a relaxing but fun way. No ‘typical’ and unnatural poses. During the session he worked with 4 kids ages 3-12, connecting with all of them at their level using unique props and the beauty of the surrounding nature to capture their true personalities.”

Senior Portrait From new Hampshire Photographer Joe Martin

From a proud mother: The DiSilva Family
“My Oldest Daughter became a senior this year. Senior year how exciting with Caps and gowns ,Prom and Senior portraits.Who do you choose to take these memorable pictures and how do you decide with so many great photographers in the area? I found a lot on Facebook. I was able to see each style every photographer had and narrow it down to two I was really interested in. I chose Joe Martin. He had a lot of great ideas and listened to what we wanted. We had never done anything like this before as we were a little apprehensive on how it would all turn out. Joe is a true pro-professional brought props from home which made the photos have that extra touch. We went to three different spots in the Tamworth Ossipee area which made each photo extremely different from the last. His eye for perfection is amazing. A week later we had the disk in hand of all the gorgeous pictures he had taken. We are still trying to decide which pictures are the best for they all are extremely beautiful. If your looking for Family Portraits, Senior Photos, or just Regular school pictures of your children , instead of spending your money at Walmart, Sears, or JcPenny try a true professional Joe Martin and create Memories that will last a lifetime with each photo he takes. I’m in love with his work and he will be taking our pictures again as we have another senior next year! Thank you Joe Martin. I’m glad I found you ,I just only wish I learned of your amazing work years ago! Joemartinphotograhy.com is the way to go!

What is a Photographer to Blog about?

What is a Photographer to Blog about?

Beautiful landscape print of a snowy rivers in New Hampshire

Snowing River in New Hampshire

Sure, I could blog about camera gear or my last family photo shoot. I want to offer more then pretty pictures or one family’s story. Plus there will always be that type of blog here and there. I want to be a bit different. I don’t want to give you what ever other photographer gives you. I want to share some of my experiences sure, but I am so much more than that.

Like most people I sit and think about a new blog post. After some time I would find a photo, write a one line back story about the photo and post. Well, that is not a post. In fact, it is almost nothing. It will not get me a better Google ranking. Google looks for new information within a page that contains between 300-2000 words or more. If you’re like me, once you get to a page and see that it has an overwhelming amount of text you do one of two things: You either close the page or you might scroll and scan the page for small lines of text that grab your eye, taking in just a small amount of the carefully crafted post. We all like to share our story to give tips, updates, a news story or better yet, show you what we had for lunch that day.

I want to keep you supplied with a post that is short and sweet, to the point and informational at the same time.  With every post I get a little clearer on what I would like to share and why I want to share it. At the same time, I am trying to become a better writer and better at typing. It is hard to type fast when you spend most of your time backspacing to remove that red line under your words. As I became more comfortable, more blog posts start forming in my head I have to start to write ideas in my phones’ notes and draft emails to myself.

Now what I am blogging about these days? Well, now that is it off season for outdoor photography in my area. At this point this it my only studio space. I am blogging about photography, about my business, and blog about a few product reviews on items I have bought this winter, just to fill in the slow shooting times with some content so Google does not forget about me.

As we close in on portrait and wedding session I will blog about shoots and post photos from them. At the same time, keeping true to my passion to share some knowledge along the way that I have picked up from others or as I try new things by pushing myself in new directions.

One thing to think about and understand is that we live in a ever-changing word. A world that did not have the iPad prior to 2010. A world where most everyone has a Smart Phone, even young children. We live in a world that camera phones are better then the high price digital cameras we lugged around a few years back. What’s next? We barely know what is happening now! One thing that we must adapt to is the fast-changing times and new ways to content with our clients to bring in new business. One thing that is in the now and we have to use to our advantage is the actual Smart Phones. We have to have our sites mobile ready to be view and navigate with ease. What I mean is with the iPhones, Siri and Google’s “search by voice” feature. We need to be ready and able to come up in a search by location and the field of work that we specialize in. Are you ready? Do you even know how to adjust your business to handle this in the best way? I may blog about it in the future once I have a better understanding on how we as photographers can benefit from this new way of internet search algorithms.

In closing, remember that everyone needs to add content to their site. You must blog to be found. Once you have been found in your area of expertise, you do have a bit of an upper hand and do not have to blog as much, but once you stop, the Google Gods will take notice. The guy/gal down the road, that has been working hard to take your place just might take it.

Thanks again for reading! If you want to stay up to date with my posts or have some feedback on this topic, please comment below. If you do want to receive a email update for new posts from my blog you may select the second check box under your comment and you will receive a notice in your Inbox.

Photojournalistic Wedding Photography

Whether it is a great black and white photo of the bride and groom having a sweet and private moment or that wide shot of the guests in the church from a low angle. I love this style of wedding photography and I am really looking forward to doing more of it. I have been reading more about the concept and the style really fits with my life.  For me it is more relaxed and real. It is about blending into the wedding party and getting the up close and personal shots as well as photos that make a true statement about a couples love for each other and their family and  guests. It is full of emotion and has an element of history behind it.

From the very first moment, to the last kiss goodbye, there is a feeling like no other that comes from a photojournalism-styled wedding project. Many color photos can be created in this style too. We all love those colors with the soft tones of the day or a slowly setting sun. Posing for a wedding like this is a craft all its own. When ones passion can be used to guide and create the vision of your wedding day, we know we will make something special. With my 50MM lens and some easy light techniques, you will all be amazed with the outcome. Are you getting married in 2014 or 2015? If you’re still on the look out for a wedding photographer know that together we will create some magic memories in whatever style of photography you like.  Please contact me for my portrait rates. I will be more then happy to give you the time you deserve to make this the best day of your life! 603-367-4657 or you may email me to start some dialog joe@joemartinphotography.com

I love when my family lets me do a portrait shoot with them. They do sit in for me to test new lighting gears or ideas. It is always so good when they take part in a real photo shoot. Here is my girls. We had shoot some photos of a family with my girls there watching on. After they both were happy to step in and have some shots taken.
